Treasure Trader is the unique series that follows modern day treasure hunter Billy Jamieson as he travels across continents, brokering some of the biggest deals in the wild world of buying and selling ancient tribal art and artefacts.
S01:E01 - Mummy / Shrunken Head / Hervé Di Rosa
Meet tribal art treasure trader Billy Jamieson and his fiancé Jessica Phillips as they travel to Paris and negotiate a deal to buy a rare Egyptian mummy. While in the “City of Lights” Billy explores an eclectic Parisian antiquities market where he stumbles across an authentic shrunken human head. We're also introduced to a few of Billy and Jessica’s more interesting friends including fellow collector Michelle Gagnon and the famous Parisian pop artist artist Hervé Di Rosa.
S01:E02 - Egyptian Collection / African Drum / Joe Coleman
Billy and Jessica travel to New York City to auction off the Treasure Trader's prized Egyptian antiquities collection. It could be the biggest deal of Billy’s career and the stakes couldn’t be higher. He paid a lot for the collection and has to turn a profit. While in the Big Apple, Billy also deals with the city’s biggest tribal art dealer, Carlo Bella, for a rare African Drum, and he and Jessica trade a shrunken head for a painting from their friend and famous artist Joe Coleman.
S01:E03 - Shrunken Head / Gordon Smith / Phantom War Shield
Billy and Jessica travel to Paris to pick up a new shrunken head. Billy bought it sight unseen and is worried about its condition. Back home in Toronto, Billy makes a play for a unique movie memorabilia collection; the life’s work of special effects designer Gordon Smith. We also meet restoration expert Mary Peever and learn how to repair a shrunken head. Never one to tread lightly, Billy also dives into the world of pop art, buying and selling a collection of rare 'Phantom war shields' from New Guinea.
S01:E04 - Nuremburg Torture Tools / Gyronaut / Suit of Armour
Billy and Jessica travel from Germany to Rhode Island on a treasure hunt for the infamous Nuremberg Torture Tool Collection. Billy also tries to add a rare suit of 17th century armour to his collection. He discovers that the seller is Bob Leppan, legendary motorcycle land speed record holder and owner of the famous “Gyronaut” rocket bike. Billy knows a great deal when he sees one and tries to buy the one-of-a-kind motorcycle.
S01:E05 - Shrunken Human Body / Magic Poster / Costume Party
Billy takes a leap of faith and buys a shrunken human body knowing that it could be a fake. To find out if it’s a rare collectible or a royal rip-off, he embarks on a CSI-style journey that takes him from the Museum of Natural History in NYC, to a hi-tech DNA lab in Guelph, Ontario, to the historic Adventurer’s Club in Chicago to solve the mystery. Along the way he takes a side trip to an art auction to buy a rare, 19th century magic show poster. He arrives home just in time for his annual costume party, the go-to party of the year, and is accosted by an amateur collector who’s brought along a mummy’s hand for Billy to appraise. There is no escape… party on!
S01:E06 - Kono Mask / Samurai Sword / 1St Autopsy / Guillotine
Billy and Jessica buy a rare African Kono mask at the world’s largest tribal art fair in Brussels. In a local antiquities shop Billy also stumbles upon an 18th century papier-mâché anatomy model. But when a Parisian art dealer calls with news that a guillotine is for sale, he drops everything and heads for the city of lights. He has to buy it. He was going to Paris anyway to have a bizarre body part appraised; a 500 year old human torso that appears to have been autopsied. But who or what is it? When he’s in Paris, Billy can never resist the lure of the local flea markets and this time he buys two 17th century samurai swords. It’s just another day at the office for treasure trader Billy Jamieson.
S01:E07 - Red Bull / Two-Headed Cow / Tooth Sign / Haida Art
Billy and Jessica take a wild, west coast road trip. In Silverton, Colorado, Billy tries to buy artifacts that belonged to the great Sioux chief Red Cloud, but he can't close the deal. In San Francisco, he makes a secret deal for a rare African Dan mask that he wants to give Jessica as a present. Then, he delivers a bizarre, two-headed calf to a collector who is one of his favourite clients. In Seattle, Billy connects with a new client, a record producer who wants to buy a shrunken head. This crazy trip ends with Billy buying a dentist’s sign made of real teeth, and a deal to buy some rare Haida artifacts. As Billy says, "you never know where treasure hunting is going to take you."
S01:E08 - God Staff / Mummy
It’s the biggest deal of Billy’s life as treasure hunter. He discovers a rare Oceanic 'Staff God' in a small Connecticut museum. It's a one-in-a-million find and could be worth millions. Whatever the cost, Billy has to buy it and fast, before Sotheby’s, one of the world’s heavy-hitter auction houses beats him to it. To help finance it, Billy buys and sells an ancient Egyptian mummy he finds in Paris. Finally, he cuts a deal for the staff by out-bidding Sotheby’s, and then, in a quirky turn of events, re-sells it to them for a multi-million dollar profit. It’s the largest tribal art deal EVER! Sadly, just a few weeks after the deal closes, Billy Jamieson passes away.
