Secret Eaters
S03: E04 - Sharon and Tracy
Anna Richardson presents the series that uncovers the science and psychology about our eating habits.
Brummie sisters Sharon and Tracy are at a loss to explain their expanding Midlands Midriff. Puzzled at the rate they are piling on the pounds and desperate to understand why their weight is spiralling out of control they agree to surveillance cameras being rigged inside their home to capture what they eat.
With a crack surveillance unit tracking all they eat outside the home, the crew find themselves following the sociable sisters as they go dancing in discos and take detours at a host of Birmingham hostelries. But it’s the fast food they grab on the way to the incident room that finally finds them out as they unwittingly sit down to be served up with a big slice of reality. Will the difference between what they think they eat and what they really eat inspire our deluded diners to change their eating habits and finally get to grips with the battle of the bulge?
But they aren’t the only ones we’ve been spying on. With 54% of office workers more likely to spend their precious lunch hour eating Al Desko than Al Fresco, how quickly will the offer of a free lunch send the mouths of the employees of a busy sales agency into over drive?
And in Secret Science, food psychologist Dr Christy Ferguson puts her best foot forward in a Salsa class where dancers who’ve worked up an appetite become the unwitting guinea pigs to test the theory that if we take our time to eat our food we’re less likely to overeat.
