Listening to the silence is the moving story of a young girl that Moves from rural Uzbekistan to Moscow, to follow her dream of becoming a composer. However, the complications of life and love throw obstacles in her way and eventually rob her of her music. The film deals with her struggle to survive in the materialistic world of modern day Moscow and to come to terms with her love for her thuggish employer, in a story that highlights the conflict between art, love and materialism. This clash is also evident in her sisters fight to save the life of her dying child which requires a major sacrifice from our young heroine. While grim in places, the film is a generally optimistic story in which love emerges triumphant.
