In the 1920s, an era when political and social mores dictate a woman's role in society, affluent newspaper reporter Dorothy Day (Kelly) pursues a life as a radical feminist, Marxist and hedonist. After passionate love affairs, an abortion and a child born out of wedlock, Dorothy struggles to find purpose in her life until she meets her mentor, itinerant French philosopher Peter Maurin (Sheen)--who teaches her to embrace poverty and dedicate her life to serving others Written by "ER" executive producer John Wells.
