Death of a Bison Bull
The Lamar Valley, Yellowstone. Winter 1997. In the haze of driving snow, a herd of bison pushes against the prevailing wind. The valley is white; the geography barely offers any visual relief. Life is hard in the winter; survival takes great effort and energy here. The winter of 1997 was one of the harshest winters in decades: a quarter of the Parks entire bison herd perished.
