Psychiatrist Zach Riley leaves an academic career to work at the Milwood Clinic, an institution where his father-a mentally ill novelist named T.L. Pierson-lived before writing a renowned children's book. Hoping to unlock the mysteries of his family's tragic past, Riley encounters a schizophrenic who helps him to discover the book's secrets and Riley's place in the story.
