The Germans had been on alert for weeks, watching and waiting for the Allied invasion everyone knew was coming. In this episode, Ted Fitzgerald joins a company of living history reenactors as they retrace the footsteps of the warriors who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Otherwise known as D-Day, the largest amphibious invasion fleet in history stormed the coast of France to break Hitler's stranglehold on Europe. From the sites of the original embarkation camps and towns where the invaders trained we head for the coast in a hazardous journey through ancient villages and country roads. Along the way we stop to chat with eyewitnesses to the events of that historic day. A Longest Day that would forever change the course of history.
