The series concludes with the surrender of the Confederate Army, and then explores the legacy of slavery and the consequences and meaning of a war that transformed the country forever.

The Road to Civil War, battles over Slavery turn violent in Kansas and Harper's Ferry. The election of Lincoln, Secession, Fort Sumter and the First Battle of Manassas.
S01:E02 - A Deep, Steady Thunder
The first battles end poorly for the North; General Lee's rise and the invasion of Maryland.
S01:E03 - Days of Infamy
The Battle of Antietam; Northern troops fail at Fredericksburg and Chancellorsville.
S01:E04 - The Turning Points
Brandy Station - the largest Cavalry battle followed by the epic struggle at Gettysburg and the fall of Vicksburg.
S01:E05 - Not War, but Murder
Chickamauga and Chattanooga in the west. Grant takes command and begins to attack Lee in Virginia. The Wilderness to Cold Harbor and the Petersburg siege.
S01:E06 - The Killing Fields
Battles for Petersburg - The Crater. The futile fights of Franklin and Nashville in Tennessee. The Battle of Five Forks shatters Lee's Army
S01:E07 - New Birth of Freedom
April 2, 1865 and the fall of Petersburg and Richmond. Lee surrenders to Grant and Sherman takes the surrender of the western Confederate Army. Lincoln's assassination and the second war over reconstruction and the citizenship of former slaves. The legacy of the war.
