
A Fistful of Stances
AU YEUNG WAI-LAN (Yuen Qiu), owner of a martial arts training school, is reunited with her long-lost son KOO YU-CHEUNG (Kevin Cheng) after years of agonizing separation. On his return home, CHEUNG is shocked to find that his younger brother KOO YU-TONG (Ma Kwok Ming) has been critically ill and that his father was murdered long ago by WING TAK (Lam Ka Wah), the existing director of a pharmaceutical company and a bitter old foe of the KOOs.
Season 1

S01:E01 - Season 1, Episode 1
Suspecting that WING TAK has killed his father-in-law AU YEUNG BIU and BIU’s second life HAU HO-FA, KOO KIN-SHING has hatched a plan to lure the man out. Unfortunately something may have gone wrong and SHING has mysteriously disappeared ever since.

S01:E02 - Season 1, Episode 2
TONG promises Chairman TSUI that he will provide evidence within a week. If he fails to do so, Au Yeung Biu Boxing School will have to be expelled from the Guangzhou Martial Arts Federation. LAN is so worried about TONG and the boxing school that she has fallen ill.

S01:E03 - Season 1, Episode 3
TONG needs TAK to swear an oath that he has never wronged the KOOs in any way. TAK dares not do so, and leaves the boxing school with KWAN right away. LEUNG has a crush on the teenage girl WING CHI-YAU. To attract her attention, the lad and his elder brother KOO YU-YAN pretend to offer free medication to the public every morning.

S01:E04 - Season 1, Episode 4
LAN feels blessed to have a happy family. LAN feels a sharp pain in the lower abdomen, so TONG takes her to the doctor at once. Along the way, they run into CHING, who offers to accompany them to the hospital. After a thorough check-up, LAN is diagnosed with appendicitis and needs to have an operation as soon as possible. LAN, however, does not take the medical advice.

S01:E05 - Season 1, Episode 5
LAN is determined not to have the operation, which worries TONG immensely. CHING comes to the boxing school trying to get LAN to the hospital, but in vain. LAN had an accident when she was carrying KUEN and LEUNG. While on the verge of death, she prayed to God that her life could be prolonged until TONG turns twenty-eight.

S01:E06 - Season 1, Episode 6
LAN’s operation goes well, which comes as a great relief to everyone. YAU pays CHING a visit at the hospital and is shocked to see YAN and LEUNG there. It is not until then that the KOOs come to realize that YAU and CHING are actually sisters. YAN comes to YAU’s school and invites her to dinner on behalf of LEUNG.

S01:E07 - Season 1, Episode 7
LAN goes shopping in the market, where she runs into CHAN KIU, the woman who abducted her eldest son CHEUNG over two decades ago. LAN is about to catch KIU but the woman manages to sneak away in the chaos. TONG goes to the market to look for clues in search of the abductor, during which he bumps into CHING again.

S01:E08 - Season 1, Episode 8
Before he goes, TUNG warns TONG not to come and disturb KIU any more. KIU is admitted to the hospital but the medical costs are too high for TUNG to cope with. CHING offers to be TUNG’s guarantor, for which he feels very grateful. In need of money to settle the medical bills, TUNG works at the restaurant by day and moonlights as a rickshaw driver at night.

S01:E09 - Season 1, Episode 9
Knowing his true identity, TUNG finally recognizes his relationship with LAN and becomes reunited with his family. YAU has a chat with CHING at the hospital, during which she reveals that she is in love with YAN but just has no idea how to reject LEUNG. Determined to express her love for YAN, YAU gives him a movie ticket and asks him out for a date.

S01:E10 - Season 1, Episode 10
YAN is shocked to discover that YAU is actually TAK’s daughter. Believing that there is no future in their relationship, YAN decides to write YAU a letter asking for a break-up. CHING turns to TONG trying to find out what has gone wrong between YAN and YAU. TONG discloses the long-running feud between the KOOs and the WINGs, which CHING finds very hard to believe.

S01:E11 - Season 1, Episode 11
CHEUNG has a strong body and recovers much faster than expected. LEUNG brings with him a knife planning to take revenge on KWAN. TONG notices LEUNG’s strange behaviors and manages to stop him from creating further trouble. TONG goes to the anniversary party of Seven Provinces Pharmacy with a waiver form and challenges KWAN to a duel on the spot.

S01:E12 - Season 1, Episode 12
CHUNG is arrested by the police but he denies the rape allegation. Aunt SAP-YI of the coffin home comes to the boxing school telling LAN how NGAN was raped by CHUNG. TONG and his siblings plead with her to testify against CHUNG. CHU and TAK construct a false alibi for CHUNG, leading to his immediate release from prison.

S01:E13 - Season 1, Episode 13
TONG has the whole family’s support and the KOOs set off together for the competition venue right away. TONG tries his best to get up and pluck the greens, but all his efforts are in vain. Despite his failure, TONG is rewarded with a massive round of applause from everyone present. TONG shouts to NGAN from afar, encouraging her to come out and stand up for herself.

S01:E14 - Season 1, Episode 14
CHUNG is willing to teach KWAN the last two sets of kicks on condition that he makes a vow to kill CHEUNG and TONG with what he learns. CHUNG is finally executed, which comes as a great relief to everyone. CHEONG decides to invest all his savings in setting up a pharmaceutical company.

S01:E15 - Season 1, Episode 15
CHAM urges TONG to settle the bill while TONG proposes buying another lot of crude drugs on credit hoping that he can repay the loan when he earns more and recovers the arrears from the Conghua Hygiene Office. CHAM finally agrees to TONG’s request, although a little reluctantly. Au Yeung Biu Pharmacy manages to produce another 100,000 boxes of Rhino Pills but receives only 2,000 dollars from the Conghua Hygiene Office in return.

S01:E16 - Season 1, Episode 16
CHAM and FONG come to the boxing school again to collect the debts. TONG makes them two cups of tea with some laxative added. As the couple start to suffer from bellyache, TONG passes them the Rhino Pills and persuades them to try some. The Rhino Pills work well for the couple, causing them to agree to extend the grace period for another few days.

S01:E17 - Season 1, Episode 17
CHAM refuses to be KWAN’s kung-fu teacher. TAK gives up trying to persuade him but warns him not to offer any more credit to TONG. Not happy with the daily management of the pharmacy, FONG appoints BING as the Assistant Manager and calls for reformation.

S01:E18 - Season 1, Episode 18
To prevent BING from being further pestered by HUNG, CHEUNG offers to escort her home. BING reveals to CHEUNG how she met and married HUNG – her family went into a speedy decline after her father’s death, and to extricate CHAM and FONG from heavy debts, she agreed to marry HUNG at the age of 16.

S01:E19 - Season 1, Episode 19
CHING is so worried about KWAN that she cannot concentrate on her work at all. Wanting to pay KWAN a visit, CHU takes a rickshaw to the pier without realizing that the rickshaw driver is actually LAN. Now that KWAN’s whereabouts have been disclosed, CHU pleads with LAN to let him off. Despite her persistent requests, LAN refuses to change her mind.

S01:E20 - Season 1, Episode 20
CHING runs into TAT’s wife outside the hospital, from whom she learns that TAT is diagnosed with an incurable disease. CHING pays TAT a visit in the prison, where she finds an unknown pill. As confirmed by the laboratory test, the pill is a form of medication used to treat heart disease.
