Scottish actor David Hayman explores the roots of whiskey, and how the amber spirit became a global powerhouse in this documentary series.
S01:E01 - Season 1, Episode 1
In episode one, the vast scale of the Scotch industry is revealed – here is a drink which reaches 175 countries across the world, with all the lucrative revenue that implies. The seminal role of blended whiskies comes to the fore, too. We hear of the Victorian pioneers who took blends across the globe, and how a crisis in French vineyards and helped Scotch become the world's number one spirit.
S01:E02 - Season 1, Episode 2
By episode two, after so much science there is a need for magic to shine through. Thus begins an exploration of Scotland’s beautiful centres of whisky: surely the people that make Scotch, and the very air around them, influence this drink as much as whitecoats in laboratories?
S01:E03 - Season 1, Episode 3
Now, we leave Scotland after hearing so many stories of how Scotch truly is a global drink. Firstly, we hear of the rise in whisky-collecting, and how a rebirth in single malts resulted in the saviour of the industry. It was then, too, that young consumers abroad began to drink blended Scotch whiskies on a huge scale. In doing so, they inspired their own countries to compete with Scotland.
