The Kangaroo Gang
An extravagant gang of Australian outlaws drifted to London in the 1960s, pulling off the most daring heists the continent had ever seen.
S01:E01 - Episode 1
This dramatised documentary tells the true story of a brazen band of Australian thieves who moved to London in the 1960s and ran riot for more than a decade, pulling off the most daring heists ever seen across Europe. The Kangaroo Gang: Thieves by Appointment follows the aftermath of the gang’s golden run. After 1972, with police hot on their trail, most of the gang dispersed into Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Many would face regular stints in jails around the world over the next two decades. During the 70s and 80s, the gang's leader, ‘The King’ Arthur Delaney did jail time in France, Denmark, Spain, Belgium and England, but he never gave up his dream ofcapturing the greatest prize in London. Asprey of Bond St, the jeweller to the Queen, was more than just a shop. It was a symbol of English wealth and achievement. Determined to be forever remembered as the King of Thieves, Delaney hatched a plan to rob this icon of style and luxury.
S01:E02 - Episode 2
In June 1990, long after the gang’s exploits had passed into history, leader of the Kangaroo Gang Arthur Delaney put together a team to attempt the greatest daylight robbery London had ever seen, a heist worth nearly two million pounds. Delaney and his team would defy modern security to pull off the job using methods they had pioneered in the 1960s. The programme visits Asprey and talks to then general manager Steve Eaves about how, when the robbery was discovered, they were able to examine the CCTV footage to find out how it was done and by whom.
