Captain of Destiny
A police constable is transported to early 19th century Hong Kong, where she meets a gang of Canton pirates, and joins them for adventures.
S01:E01 - Captain of Destiny
Knowing that the ferocious mobsters kidnapped IT mogul YANG TAOGUO, quick-witted police officer WONG TAI-MUI immediately calls headquarters for backup. While the police are opening fire on the kidnappers, TAI-MUI risks her own life to give pursuit, during which a canopy collapses, hitting and injuring a passer-by and his dog. On impulse, TAI-MUI expresses radical criticism in a media interview, and she ends up being relocated to a station in Cheung Chau shortly after she gets promoted to Sergeant. Going to the hospital to visit the injured passer-by, BOWIE, TAI-MUI promises to look after his dog. Later on, she bumps into BOWIE again when she brings the dog back to her ancestral house in Cheung Chau, and she even recommends him to go sketching at CHEUNG PO-TSAI Cave. Having returned to the dry seafood store run by her elder sister, TAI-MUI notices her elder sister, TAI-NUI, is working so hard alone there; whereas her husband FU MA is a penny pincher, so TAI-MUI cannot help thinking that it's not worth her sister's while doing everything for this cheapskate brother-in-law. TAI-MUI then goes to the police station to report for duty, and all of her co-workers turn out to be her childhood acquaintances. Among them, Senior Inspector LEUNG KIM-FUNG, an astronomy enthusiast, gravely tells TAI-MUI that many unexplained, paranormal phenomena have happened in Cheung Chau while welcoming her back. Going to the CHEUNG PO-TSAI Cave to make some sketches, BOWIE has an accident, during which something strange happens. With TAI-MUI getting informed by the dispatcher about the collapse of the CHEUNG PO-TSAI Cave, it's discovered that BOWIE is trapped inside the cave, and he cannot move as both his legs are crushed by the stones. TAI-MUI goes to his rescue, and upon her departure, she finds an old silver coin. She then turns on her flashlight to look at it in detail, fascinatingly, a shadow bearing a striking resemblance to CHEUNG PO-TSAI out of the blue flashes by behind her...
S01:E02 - Captain of Destiny
Knowing that TAI-MUI thinks CHEUNG PO-TSAI is merely a fictional character, KIM-FUNG leads her to the store room of the police station, briefing her about the history and background with regard to CHEUNG PO-TSAI, plus WONG’s Genealogy, which is then downloaded by TAI-MUI to her tablet computer. CHING SUM, from the VIP Protection Unit, is dispatched to Cheung Chau to conduct a site survey for his upcoming mission, so KIM-FUNG assigns TAI-MUI to assist him, and it turns out that they were a couple. On their inspection tour, CHING SUM and TAI-MUI run into BOWIE, from whose sketches CHING SUM out of the blue sees TAI-MUI's portrait, so CHING SUM misconstrues that the two are carrying on with each other. By chance, BOWIE overhears the conversation between FU MA and CHING SUM, learning that FU MA uncovered CHING SUM had an affair in Mainland China and had been cheating on TAI-MUI. After BOWIE relays the information to TAI-MUI, TAI-MUI goes to ask CHING SUM about it, above which she even takes away his laptop computer. Having learned about the whole thing, TAI-MUI bursts into tears and leaves, without knowing that BOWIE inserts a flash drive to copy the confidential files from the computer...
S01:E03 - Captain of Destiny
Seeing that the guest for a large-scale outdoor event is YANG TAOGUO, TAI-MUI is of the opinion that the "Bandit King" is definitely going to show up in Cheung Chau, given the fact that they were engaged in fire during the rescue operation in Kwun Tong. Later on, TAI-MUI runs into a veterinarian who gave her dog a check-up, and she cannot help getting suspicious of BOWIE after talking with the veterinarian. Upon TAOGUO's arrival at Cheung Chau by his private yacht, an abrupt climate change results in another unexplained, paranormal phenomenon. Assembling their subordinates, CHING SUM and KIM-FUNG are getting ready to confront the criminals head-on, simultaneously, the "Bandit King" is also leading his armed forces to launch an attack. With the battle between the police and the criminals prompting horrendous chaos in Cheung Chau, the henchmen of the "Bandit King" manage to abduct TAOGUO, fleeing towards the seashore, so TAI-MUI immediately drives a speedboat to give pursuit. All of a sudden, a waterspout appears off the coast following a drastic change of the weather, flipping over the speedboat of the "Bandit King". As for TAI-MUI, she is also caught in the waterspout and travels back in time two hundred years to the Qing Dynasty, where the Qing Navy is hunting down CHEUNG PO-TSAI and the other pirates. Just as CHEUNG PO-TSAI is scheming to attack the Qing fleet, out of the blue a young woman is thrown by the waterspout to the area. Launching an attack, the Qing Navy fires the cannon, shooting both TAI-MUI and CHEUNG PO-TSAI on one of the Qing battleships...
S01:E04 - Captain of Destiny
CHEUNG PO-TSAI, aka "The Devil", attempts to fire the cannon by using TAI-MUI as the human cannonball, ahead of which his archrival WONG YI, one of the Black Flag pirates, makes a sudden appearance, scheming to seize control of the Qing ship taken by CHEUNG PO-TSAI. In order to escape the shooting range of WONG YI's cannon, CHEUNG PO-TSAI has his crew throw the goods stored in the cabin into the sea and detain TAI-MUI in the cabin. At that moment, TAI-MUI comes to realise that she did travel back in time to the Qing Dynasty. One of TAI-MUI's modern world belongings accidentally blows up the cannon on PO's ship, leading to the defeat of CHEUNG PO-TSAI. Fortunately, with TAI-MUI's help, CHEUNG PO-TSAI learns how to make torpedos and successfully repels WONG YI's attack. CHEUNG PO-TSAI then escorts TAI-MUI back to the water stockade for interrogation. While there, one of his subordinates, LAU SING, who used to follow the western pirates, uncovers that TAI-MUI can speak a foreign language, so he is convinced that TAI-MUI is actually a mixed-race girl. Attending the meeting of the League of the Seven Seas, WONG YI takes the initiative to approach the Commander, CHENG YAT, to file a complaint against CHEUNG PO-TSAI, accusing him of stealing the ship from the allies. Though CHEUNG PO-TSAI manages to rush back to reveal the whole truth, he is instead under the threat of WONG YI to expose that he broke his oath as a pirate and released the Qing general...
S01:E05 - Captain of Destiny
Following her escape, TAI-MUI accidentally charges onto WONG YI's ship, where she endeavors to grab some clothes and get changed. Her actions happen to be seen by CHEUNG PO-TSAI, who is also on board the ship. Later on, WONG YI discovers TAI-MUI and manages to apprehend her. Just as he is about to sexually assault her, fortunately, CHEUNG PO-TSAI goes to her rescue. Admiral FOK YEE-TAI of the Guangdong Navy has tried to eliminate the pirates for years but to no avail, on top of which his subordinate, the Naval Commander HON YUNG even suffered a catastrophic defeat where his whole army was completely wiped out in the battle. In light of this, HON YUNG comes up with an ingenious ploy, which is to arrest a couple of fishermen and return to the capital to take credit for the success. Knowing that Lady YIM will definitely back him up, YEE-TAI follows suit in an attempt to get away with it. YEE-TAI and HON YUNG falsely accuse some innocent fishermen of being the pirates, making a triumphant return. Although SIU-FU, a former navy soldier, discovers the truth and intends to teach them a lesson, he is hindered by a man who challenged him to a duel. The man turns out to be the Eleventh Prince, MAN-HO, a living embodiment of righteousness, and YEE-TAI's evildoing fills him with abhorrence, so he joins forces with eight censors to submit a memorial to the Emperor, filing a complaint against YEE-TAI. Just as the Emperor is about to order the execution of YEE-TAI, Lady YIM suddenly appears to stop him from doing so...
S01:E06 - Captain of Destiny
MAN-HO is commissioned by Emperor JIAQING to eliminate the pirates in Guangdong, a crisis-ridden province. On the other hand, MAN-HO's mother, Lady SHUN meets with Lady YIM to plead for forgiveness after MAN-HO ratted out YEE-TAI to the Emperor. As the meeting of the League of the Seven Seas is around the corner, CHENG YAT somehow feels keenly that his ability falls short of his wishes, which greatly disturbs SHEK KIU and PO. CHEUNG PO-TSAI messes with TAI-MUI while returning the backpack to her, resulting in endless hilarious-riots. As for TAI-MUI, she still cannot adapt to the life in the Heroes’ Den. Suddenly, she recalls that she herself downloaded the County annals of Daoguang Reign to her mobile phone, through which she learns about the upcoming waterspout in four days, so she hopes to seize the opportunity to return to 2015 Hong Kong. Lady YIM, who was going to let YEE-TAI follow MAN-HO to the south, seeking to ruin his chances of getting any credit in the future, changes her mind and instead lets her attendant, TUNG-SUET, sneak into the palace, hiding among the palace maid trainees. The palace maid trainees encounter the striking phenomenon of a solar eclipse, during which HA SIM has an accident, fortunately she is rescued by MAN-HO in the nick of time. Meanwhile, seeing that TUNG-SUET is hiding among the palace maid trainees, LAI GONG GONG cannot help feeling startled...
S01:E07 - Captain of Destiny
Lady YIM invites Lady SHUN, it seems, out for flower viewing and pomelos eating; she simply takes advantage of this to taunt her. Lady YIM even notes that she has already arranged a palace maid for MAN-HO. With LAI GONG GONG pointing out why Lady YIM demoted TUNG-SUET to palace maid trainee is to plant a spy around MAN-HO, Lady SHUN cannot help feeling disturbed by the issue with regard to MAN-HO. Though having fallen victim to TUNG-SUET's setup, HA SIM still manages to claim the ultimate victory during the competition against other palace maid trainees, so MAN-HO eventually chooses HA SIM as his new palace maid. Lady YIM bribes HA SIM to be her informant in an attempt to pry into MAN-HO's secrets. As for WONG YI, he seems to have an axe to grind since he's been seeking to become the next Commander. When it comes down to whether WONG YI or CHENG YAT will claim the ultimate victory in the "Seven Seas Tournament", CHEUNG PO-TSAI and the others are well aware that CHENG YAT's advanced age would preclude him from winning the championship. As CHEUNG PO-TSAI is rather perturbed by the idea of WONG YI becoming the next Commander, Scholar SUEN suggests that the "Nine Dragons Pearl" could help boost CHENG YAT's strength. Seeing that it's the birthday of the Nine Dragons the next day, CHENG YAT intends to seize the opportunity to go to worship in the Nine Dragons Temple, praying for blessings from the "Nine Dragons Pearl". At that moment, TAI-MUI comes to realize that the mountain behind her is exactly the location of the Nine Dragons Temple, where the waterspout is going to take place.
S01:E08 - Captain of Destiny
TAI-MUI goes to scout the Nine Dragons Temple, during which she misconceives that SHEK KIU committed adultery with another man. While all of the pirates are releasing the sky lanterns for blessings, TAI-MUI writes her wishes on a lantern; whereas CHEUNG PO-TSAI also prays in hopes of finding himself a perfect match soon. Across the bustling festival site of the Nine Dragons Temple fair, LAU SING takes out a strongman pill and hands it to CHENG YAT, claiming that it can help boost his strength. Upon her arrival at the Nine Dragons Temple at night, TAI-MUI spots the waterspout off the coast and becomes so excited that she knocks over her backpack and breaks her nail polish bottle, the chemical residues of which leaks out of the package into the cup of the shrine located in the lower level. Meanwhile, CHENG YAT and the others also arrive there to look for the Nine Dragons Pearl, praying for blessings. While there, LAU SING notices that the water inside the cup turns red. Just as CHENG YAT is about to drink the sweet dew from Heaven, CHEUNG PO-TSAI leaps forward to try it out in his stead, almost losing his life. Though dashing to the waterspout location, TAI-MUI is still worried about CHEUNG PO-TSAI's safety, so she determinedly goes back to give him first aid. Despite MAN-HO's repeated submissions of the proposals on cracking down the persistent pirates, the Emperor keeps giving him the cold shoulder, which greatly aggravates MAN-HO. All at once he loses his temper, unexpectedly, HA SIM bursts into the room at the same time holding the dishes in her hands, leading to an awkward moment.
S01:E09 - Captain of Destiny
Though getting an earful from MAN-HO, HA SIM still prays to Goddess Guan Yin for MAN-HO's well-being, which greatly impresses Lady SHUN. HA SIM delivers the dishes to MAN-HO and leaves his room, after which MAN-HO enters the room and notices that one page of his proposal to eliminate the pirates is missing, which makes him suspicious of HA SIM. After interrogating HA SIM, MAN-HO gets to know that she is under Lady YIM's instruction to keep an eye on him, so he immediately kicks her out of his residence. YEE-TAI does not have any children, but fortunately for him, he adopts FOOK-CHEUNG as his son from the clan, and he takes his son to pay a visit to Lady YIM. When Lady SHUN tries to comfort HA SIM, HA SIM instead recalls that the missing page of the proposal might end up in the garden. In order to clear her name, she goes to the garden to look for the missing page. TUNG-SUET, who is looking after FOOK-CHEUNG, gets distracted while chit-chatting with HON YUNG, resulting in FOOK-CHEUNG's sudden death after he slips and falls. Endeavoring to protect TUNG-SUET, HON YUNG out of the blue blames the child's death on HA SIM, who is therefore falsely accused of murdering FOOK-CHEUNG!
S01:E10 - Captain of Destiny
Despite the fact that HA SIM has a gun pointed at her head by YEE-TAI, Lady SHUN forcefully takes away HA SIM in an attempt to bring her back to her palace. Suddenly, Lady YIM shows up, triggering a power struggle between her and Lady SHUN. Not wanting HA SIM to fall victim to the murderous menace of YEE-TAI, MAN-HO tries his best to safeguard her. During the ensuing stand-off between the two parties, LAI GONG GONG appears in time to extricate them from the dilemma. CHEUNG PO-TSAI goes to have a word with SHEK KIU, discussing with her how to secure CHENG YAT a second term as the Commander of the Seven Seas. Through their conversation, SHEK KIU senses that CHEUNG PO-TSAI seems to have a thing for TAI-MUI. Later on, SHEK KIU picks up a note indicating that she committed adultery. Suspecting that it's TAI-MUI who did this, SHEK KIU assembles all the other pirates to hunt down TAI-MUI, who eventually escaped narrowly. After the saga draws to a close, TAI-MUI uncovers that the Nine Dragons Pearl is in fact a speedboat engine. MAN-HO holds a military parade as soon as he arrives at Guangdong, only to find out that the weapons equipped by the soldiers have become worn out due to YEE-TAI's corruption. To assess the morale in the military, MAN-HO commands to expose the troops to harsh sunlight and heavy rain. Meanwhile, HA SIM is innocently praying for blessings for MAN-HO.
S01:E11 - Captain of Destiny
Though MAN-HO successfully lifts the morale of the troops, YEE-TAI, who seeks revenge on his son's death, schemes to have MAN-HO fail the mission of wiping out the pirates and have him executed by the Emperor. Worse yet, HON YUNG starts sowing discord among the navy, maneuvering two groups of the soldiers into infighting. Exhausted both mentally and physically, MAN-HO finds himself not only at his wits' end but also under fire from all angles, above which he even contracts Malaria, pushing him to the brink of death. Seeing that the relationship between CHEUNG PO-TSAI and TAI-MUI is developing quickly, LAU SING and the others are all thrilled with joy thinking that TAI-MUI will soon marry CHEUNG PO-TSAI. The family members of the pirates are busy sending gold jewellery to TAI-MUI as gifts, congratulating her on becoming PO's soon-to-be wife. In spite of his sickness, MAN-HO still tries to handle the routine affairs, however, and the conflicts between the two groups of the soldiers have gone far beyond his control. SIU-FU frankly admits that only through HON YUNG can they pour oil on troubled waters, leaving MAN-HO no other choice but to agree with him. In view of this, HA SIM goes to the naval barracks without permission to have a word with YEE-TAI and HON YUNG, during which YEE-TAI wants HA SIM to pay with her life for his son. That night, HON YUNG finds HA SIM, threatening to rape her.
S01:E12 - Captain of Destiny
MAN-HO assigns HON YUNG to lead two battalions to fight against WONG YI and his men. After learning that WONG YI is not in the water stockade, HON YUNG suggests that they could just randomly grab a couple of weak and unimportant sidekicks to brush off MAN-HO so as to let YEE-TAI take credit for the success. Meanwhile, SHEK KIU and the others hear that WONG YI is going to take six concubines, so LAU SING advises that they could launch an ambush at the time of the banquet held by WONG YI, to which everyone agrees. After turning down CHEUNG PO-TSAI's love proposal, TAI-MUI is determined to travel back in time to Hong Kong, whereas lovelorn CHEUNG PO-TSAI decides to release TAI-MUI and call it even. CHEUNG PO-TSAI leads his men to the Double Happiness Restaurant, where WONG YI holds the banquet and sneaks into the newlywed's room, trying to attack WONG YI. On the other hand, TAI-MUI arrives at Guangzhou, where she runs into SHUK-KWAN, who just escaped. While helping SHUK-KWAN flee, TAI-MUI recognizes that SHUK-KWAN is actually one of her ancestors. Having fully recovered from his illness, MAN-HO hears news of HON YUNG's victory over WONG YI after attacking his den, so he decides to give vent to the anger on behalf of the masses who have suffered enough due to the violence and disaster inflicted by the pirates, leading a mass execution of pirates in public right in front of the naval barracks. With great courage and superb skills, CHEUNG PO-TSAI and the others challenge MAN-HO to a flying-dagger duel.
S01:E13 - Captain of Destiny
Seeing that MAN-HO and the other navy sailors lead a mass execution of pirates in public right in front of the naval barracks, CHEUNG PO-TSAI and the others are utterly consumed with rage. Throwing a dagger to challenge MAN-HO, they are determined to combat against the Guangdong Navy. Ahead of his departure, CHEUNG PO-TSAI hands an amulet of protection to TAI-MUI, who surprisingly recognizes that it is actually the old silver coin that will save her life in two hundred years, marking the beginning of their serendipitous romance! MAN-HO commands HON YUNG to battle against CHEUNG PO-TSAI, but HON YUNG gets cold feet and makes an excuse that he sustained severe injuries. So, MAN-HO tells HA SIM to use the herbal medicine to attend to HON YUNG's injuries without knowing that HON YUNG takes advantage of the situation in an attempt to sexually assault her. Flying into a rage, MAN-HO kills HON YUNG, making HA SIM feel so touched. With the pirates pressing on towards the naval barracks, MAN-HO tries to fend them off by firing the cannons, only to find out that their cannons are all out-of-date weapons that have a relatively short range. Seeing that neither commanders nor sailors follow his orders, plus the vast maritime disparity between them and the pirates, MAN-HO becomes so helpless. On the other hand, CHENG YAT lets CHEUNG PO-TSAI succeed him as the Commander-in-Chief, hoping that he will make a name for himself. As for MAN-HO, he knows very well that it's impossible for them to defend against the pirates' cannon fire due to the lack of battleships, so he orders the vanguard fleet to form a single line formation. Having no idea as to what kind of formation it is, CHEUNG PO-TSAI dares not to make a move...
S01:E14 - Captain of Destiny
At the celebratory banquet in the water stockade, CHEUNG PO-TSAI proposes marriage to TAI-MUI, who turns him down. On the other hand, LAI GONG GONG receives the military report drafted by YEE-TAI, stating the failure of MAN-HO's troops in battling the pirates. With the Crown Prince going to have a word with Emperor JIAQING face-to-face due to an emergency, Lady YIM has to leave and wait outside of the room, during which TUNG-SUET notices that Lady YIM feels nauseous and is about to vomit. It turns out that Lady YIM is pregnant with the Emperor's child but she deliberately keeps a low profile. Knowing his days are numbered, the Crown Prince sincerely hopes that Emperor JIAQING would strip him of his crown as heir to the throne, and find another suitable successor so as to avoid the fratricidal bloodshed. Though Prince MAN-HONG and the others want Emperor JIAQING to impose severe punishment on MAN-HO, Emperor JIAQING is entirely preoccupied and focused with thoughts of Crown Prince's illness. Seeking advice from LAI GONG GONG, Lady SHUN would like to know how to make Emperor JIAQING bestow the quinine on MAN-HO to save his life; whereas LAI GONG GONG advises that she'd better go to plead with Lady YIM. Once again, Prince MAN-HONG and the others beg Emperor JIAQING to impose severe punishment on MAN-HO, so Emperor JIAQING cannot help scolding his sons. At that moment, Lady YIM approaches Emperor JIAQING, asking for forgiveness on behalf of MAN-HO...
S01:E15 - Captain of Destiny
Due to earlier debacle, MAN-HO sparks an idea which is to purchase western cannons. However, SHEUNG TAK, the person in charge of foreign affairs, does not know any foreign languages; whereas the most outstanding one among the brokers is WONG YAT-HIN. MAN-HO discovers that HA SIM's uncle turns out be to YAT-HIN, so he specifically pays a visit to him. After MAN-HO invites YAT-HIN to his residence, YAT-HIN arrogantly demands semi-annual military pay and Prince's residence as his commission fee of helping them purchase the western cannons, to which YEE-TAI is strongly opposed. Ever since she turned down CHEUNG PO-TSAI's marriage proposal, TAI-MUI has made a number of enemies in the water stockade, coming under attack from all sides. SHEK KIU cannot bear to see CHEUNG PO-TSAI drowning his sorrows in alcohol, so she asks TAI-MUI to leave the water stockade, but TAI-MUI refuses to do so. CHEUNG PO-TSAI then coerces TAI-MUI into joining them as one of the pirates, leaving TAI-MUI no other choice but to agree. Throwing down the gauntlet, CHEUNG PO-TSAI challenges MAN-HO that he is going to break into the naval barracks at night to steal the imperial yellow jacket. In the dead of night, CHEUNG PO-TSAI and his men break into the naval barracks, during which TAI-MUI wields a dagger, stabbing at HA SIM...
S01:E16 - Captain of Destiny
CHEUNG PO-TSAI plots to steal the imperial yellow jacket, coincidentally, LAI GONG GONG, Prince MAN-HONG and the others happen to arrive there. After seeing the mocking remark as well as the returned imperial yellow jacket, they immediately blame MAN-HO for this. YAT-HIN goes to Macau to look for British Army Officer ROBERTSON, a friend with whom he went through thick and thin, discussing the matter of purchasing the western cannons. To his surprise, ROBERTSON, who became down-and-out, refuses to work with him on the pretext that the two are utterly incompatible with each other. Later on, YAT-HIN encounters SHUK-KWAN, the now-famous Courtesan, who leaves a great first impression on YAT-HIN. Just as ROBERTSON is about to be executed by hanging following his arrest, he pressures YAT-HIN to save him by using the western cannons as the bait; whereas YAT-HIN begins to take a fancy to SHUK-KWAN, inviting her to join him. With YAT-HIN once again informing MAN-HO to gather another fifty thousand silver ingots, LAI GONG GONG is of the opinion that YAT-HIN is not trustworthy. Meanwhile, YAT-HIN gets acquainted with a Macau Police Captain called FABIO. Upon his arrival at YAT-HIN's place, SIU-FU incurs rebuke from YAT-HIN for having verbally abused SHUK-KWAN, and YAT-HIN even urges him to apologize to SHUK-KWAN.
S01:E17 - Captain of Destiny
Walking alone back to the naval barracks, MAN-HO spots two groups of the soldiers gambling. Surprisingly, he does not scold them about it, on top of which he himself even joins them and becomes the banker. Prince MAN-JING comes to the barracks to deliver fifty thousand silver ingots together with a letter written by Lady SHUN, to which MAN-HO feels very grateful. MAN-HO then hopes that LAI GONG GONG can help prepare food for the soldiers in celebration of the Winter Solstice. However, an officer suddenly comes to relay that as per YEE-TAI, they are not going to celebrate the Winter Solstice because they don't have enough money. Though HA SIM manages to deliver the silver ingots to YAT-HIN, Police Captain FABIO out of the blue leads his troops to come and take YAT-HIN into custody, revealing that YAT-HIN will be executed by hanging in three days. While requesting HA SIM to tell MAN-HO that he needs another fifty thousand silver ingots, YAT-HIN reassures that he will definitely buy the western cannons for the Prince even if he has to put his life on the line. On the other hand, YAT-HIN tells SHUK-KWAN to go to his room and open the twelfth brocade bag, in which she will be able to find the useful tips that could save his life.
S01:E18 - Captain of Destiny
After YAT-HIN returns to the Admiral's residence, MAN-HO keeps his word and gives him the Admiral's residence. In response to HA SIM's query as to how he is going to deal with SHUK-KWAN, YAT-HIN frankly discloses that he is not going to marry her. Later on, SHUK-KWAN receives a letter from YAT-HIN, in which she finds not only a banknote but also a 'Dear Jane' letter. When TAI-MUI feels the road in front is indefinite, she coincidentally buys back her own gun. Later on in the street, she runs into SHUK-KWAN, who tells her that the navy has purchased the western cannons. Meanwhile, CHEUNG PO-TSAI and the others are moving full speed ahead with plans to take over the naval barracks, so TAI-MUI catches them up to inform them of the issue with regard to the western cannons. Unfortunately, none of them believes what TAI-MUI said. With CHEUNG PO-TSAI being prodded by MAN-HO into going all-in to attack the navy, MAN-HO orders to fire the cannons, successfully sinking many pirate ships, including CHENG YAT's ship which is also hit by the cannon fire. CHEUNG PO-TSAI then orders his crew to kick into high gear, storming towards the shore. But they come under a flaming arrow attack from the navy; whereas CHEUNG PO-TSAI is even shot by an arrow.
S01:E19 - Captain of Destiny
CHEUNG PO-TSAI's attempt to attack the naval barracks ends in failure, inflicting not only heavy casualties on the pirate forces but also serious injuries on himself. Feeling very guilty, CHEUNG PO-TSAI blames himself for not having listened to TAI-MUI's advice. MAN-HO is afraid that CHEUNG PO-TSAI might take advantage of the heavy fog to launch a counter attack, so he decides to wait until the next day to wipe out the remnants of the pirates. Meanwhile, CHENG YAT and the others also plan to lead the final strike against the navy early next morning. With CHEUNG PO-TSAI attempting to seek revenge all by himself, TAI-MUI comes up with an idea, which is to let herself divert the attention of the navy and then blow up the western cannons so as to create an opportunity for CHEUNG PO-TSAI to launch an ambush. Having successfully arrived at the naval barracks, TAI-MUI comes in front of one of the western cannons to fire a gun at the cannonballs, managing to blow up the cannon. Unexpectedly, she runs into MAN-HO upon her departure. Just as she is about to open fire, a bomb next to her out of the blue explodes. After YAT-HIN moves into the Admiral's Residence, he immediately invites his younger sister WING-YU, who lives in his hometown, to move there and stay with him. On the street, YAT-HIN and WING-YU bump into SHUK-KWAN, who turns out to have hired a scholar to draft a petition for her as she intends to file a lawsuit in court, forcing YAT-YIN to marry her.
S01:E20 - Captain of Destiny
LAI GONG GONG is getting ready to go back to the capital as soon as possible so as to report MAN-HO's victory over the pirates to Emperor JIAQING; whereas HA SIM prays to Goddess GUAN YIN for MAN-HO, revealing that she would like to follow a vegan diet in hopes of redeeming MAN-HO from his sin of killing. Interrogating captive TAI-MUI, MAN-HO coerces her to disclose CHEUNG PO-TSAI's whereabouts, but TAI-MUI refuses to do so, claiming that the reason why they became the pirates is all because of the navy. Apart from that, she even denounces the brutal crimes of the navy one after another to MAN-HO, MAN-HO then verifies what she said with SIU-FU, who frankly admits everything. In the meantime, YEE-TAI captures Scholar SUEN, and he together with Prince MAN-HONG and Prince MAN-LEUNG are interrogating and torturing the detainee in the prison cell. As soon as LAI GONG GONG returns to the capital, he immediately brings the good news to the Emperor, who is very pleased with it. All of a sudden, there is bad news coming from the palace, and it turns out that the Crown Prince has passed away. Having heard this, the Emperor is devastated by the loss of his son. On the other hand, Lady YIM is seeking to install her unborn child as the new Crown Prince, so she attempts to attack MAN-HO by taking advantage of the fact that he put the imperial yellow jacket on the straw effigy.
S01:E21 - Captain of Destiny
Emperor JIAQING is grief-stricken over the death of the Crown Prince. Meanwhile, Lady YIM secretly tells Emperor JIAQING that the death of the Crown Prince was not pre-ordained by the heavens, but likely to be inflicted by someone with an ulterior motive. On top of that, she even takes out a straw effigy, accusing LAI GONG GONG of murdering the Crown Prince by casting voodoo spells. On the other hand, LAI GONG GONG predicts that the Emperor will soon be very furious. As expected, shortly afterwards, the Commander appears and throws him in jail after arresting him over the alleged murder of the Crown Prince. Just as LAI GONG GONG is trying to figure out who would want him dead, Lady YIM shows up and tells him about the straw effigy, adding that he will be acquitted of all charges and freed from death row as long as he cites MAN-HO as the mastermind. However, LAI GONG GONG replies that she is just wasting her time while trying to manipulate him to harm MAN-HO. Emperor JIAQING orders to use harsh interrogation methods on LAI GONG GONG, who insists that he is innocent. At that moment, Lady YIM points out to the Emperor that she suspects foul play behind the case because the straw effigy was found in the Guangdong naval barracks. At that time, LAI GONG GONG happened to go south to assist MAN-HO, so she smells a rat. As such, Emperor JIAQING immediately summons MAN-HO back to the capital.
S01:E22 - Captain of Destiny
MAN-HO is very grateful to TAI-MUI who helped him avoid being blamed by the Emperor on the issue of the death of the Crown Prince. To express his gratitude to TAI-MUI, he pardons her for engaging in piracy activities, but TAI-MUI doesn't appreciate it at all, above which she even delivers a sharp rebuke to MAN-HO by referring to him as vindictive, therefore she should be merciless towards him. For this matter, MAN-HO starts arguing with TAI-MUI, who then advises him entering into negotiations with the pirates. At that moment, SIU-FU comes to report that earlier, he along with his battalion ran into CHEUNG PO-TSAI, who was on the run, and after engaging in a skirmish with each other, CHEUNG PO-TSAI sustained injuries and fled. Seeing that CHEUNG PO-TSAI's amulet of protection, the old silver coin, is covered with blood, TAI-MUI cannot help worrying. Severely wounded CHEUNG PO-TSAI manages to shun many military officers and sneak into the kitchen to look for food. Suddenly, he hears someone enter the kitchen, attempting to drop some strong sedative drugs into the meal for a female pirate. Misconceiving that they are going to harm TAI-MUI, CHEUNG PO-TSAI shows up, trying to stop them from doing so. In order to protect the female pirate in the room, CHEUNG PO-TSAI is determined to put up a fight against all of them. However, he doesn't know who she really is until he is exhausted, ending up on the brink of collapse. At that moment, he comes to realise that the aforesaid female pirate is a Siamese pirate called WUSONA.
S01:E23 - Captain of Destiny
On the day of the Seven Seas Tournament, all the pirates look up to CHENG YAT, supporting him as the Commander of the Seven Seas. Just as CHENG YAT is about to assume the title, WONG YI out of the blue appears and vies for the title of Commander, fiercely fighting against CHENG YAT. CHENG YAT has become old and frail, which places him at a disadvantage. In view of this, SHEK KIU gives him a hand, which on the contrary renders CHENG YAT disqualified from the competition. In the nick of time, CHEUNG PO-TSAI rushes back to duke it out with WONG YI. Just as CHEUNG PO-TSAI is looking to be on the verge of defeat, surprisingly, WONG YI's hand is bitten by a venomous snake, on the heels of which Siamese pirate WUSONA makes a sudden appearance. Claiming that she would like to join forces with the Commander of the Seven Seas in a bid to fight off the Qing fleet, WUSONA adds that she will not give the right antidote in the treatment of the venomous bite to anyone else but the newly-crowned Commander of the Seven Seas. YAT-HIN intends to bring TAI-MUI and MAN-HO together at all cost, so he doesn't hesitate to follow TAI-MUI and Scholar SUEN to the south. Having traced back her family tree in Wong’s Genealogy, TAI-MUI comes to realise that YAT-HIN is in fact one of her paternal ancestors. Not wanting history to be altered as a result of her time travel, TAI-MUI thus decides to follow YAT-HIN back to Guangzhou, trying to play a matchmaker for him and SHUK-KWAN.
S01:E24 - Captain of Destiny
PALATINE takes the initiative to have a word with YAT-HIN, to whom he frankly discloses what actually happened between him and SHUK-KWAN the other night in Macau. It turns out that he has been regarding SHUK-KWAN as a sacred goddess, through whom he confesses, rejects, and renounces any bloodshed through murder or killings done in the past that he was involved in. After learning of this, YAT-HIN changes his attitude completely, and with Prince MAN-HONG as their witness, he eventually ties the knot with SHUK-KWAN. Thinking that her mission has been accomplished after seeing this, TAI-MUI wishes the newlyweds to be blessed with a baby boy soon, without knowing that YAT-HIN doesn't sincerely want to marry SHUK-KWAN. In fact, YAT-HIN is a kind of person that refuses to give in under any duress, so he is determined to leave SHUK-KWAN to live her whole life alone in Wong's Mansion. Having heard this, TAI-MUI is concerned that she will never be born at all. Emperor JIAQING leads Lady YIM to meet Lady SHUN, MAN-HO and the others, telling her to apologize to Lady SHUN for the false allegation she laid against MAN-HO earlier. With Scholar SUEN bringing along an amnesty offer letter to arrive at the gathering of the League of the Seven Seas, CHENG YAT, SHEK KIU and the others all fly into a rage as soon as they read the letter. Eventually, CHEUNG PO-TSAI cannot tolerate it anymore so he gives Scholar SUEN an earful for his behavior while thinking the latter has turned into a renegade ever since he returned from the capital.

TAI-MUI purposely arranges for YAT-HIN and SHUK-KWAN to dance together in a ballroom dance party, hoping to help reconcile their broken relationship. Seeing the pair dancing with enthusiasm, TAI-MUI cannot help feeling excited. Suddenly, TAI-MUI sees MAN-HO wearing a suit standing in front of her, which is surprisingly overwhelming. MAN-HO invites TAI-MUI to dance with him, and the two are having a great time. After the two walk out to the garden, MAN-HO once again asks TAI-MUI to dance with him, and they kiss under the moonlight. TAI-MUI turns around and catches a glimpse of CHEUNG PO-TSAI as he sneaks a peek behind a pole. Heartbroken, CHEUNG PO-TSAI storms out of the garden, and TAI-MUI tries to stop him but to no avail. While CHEUNG PO-TSAI is drowning his sorrows in alcohol, WUSONA stealthily shows up, urging him to quit thinking about TAI-MUI as TAI-MUI has apparently fallen in love with MAN-HO. Due to his setback in love, the jinx placed on CHEUNG PO-TSAI is triggered, causing him to pass out after his heart was torn apart by the grievance. TAI-MUI later returns to the water stockade, where she is questioned by SHEK KUI as to why she wants to turn on them. However, TAI-MUI requests to meet CHEUNG PO-TSAI immediately.
S01:E26 - Captain of Destiny
CHEUNG PO-TSAI, MAN-HO and the others arrive at the late CHENG YAT's mourning hall, where SHEK KIU immediately reprimands PO-TSAI for being in cahoots with MAN-HO after seeing that MAN-HO is still alive. Using torture, namely "Three stabs and six holes", on CHEUNG PO-TSAI, she tactically flushes out CHENG YAT's murderer. SHEK KIU then reads out CHENG YAT's death note, which not only confirms CHEUNG PO-TSAI's position as the new Commander of the Seven Seas, but also agrees with his decision to surrender to the government. MAN-HO returns to the capital, receiving a warm welcome from the crowd on his way back. Meanwhile, Lady YIM gives birth to a baby boy, making Emperor JIAQING very happy. Emperor JIAQING summons MAN-HO to have an audience with him in the imperial garden to celebrate his success of bringing the pirates into submission. MAN-HO thereby points out to the Emperor all the evil-doings done by YEE-TAI in the naval barracks, which according to him, demands just punishment. On top of that, MAN-HO even highly recommends SIU-FU for the position of the new admiral of the navy. As such, MAN-HO is in favor with Emperor JIAQING. As for YAT-HIN, he misses SHUK-KWAN so much that he looks around for her, only to find her tomb in a church cemetery. Devastated, YAT-HIN cannot help blaming himself at the church, all of a sudden, someone in black passes by. After catching up with that person, who turns out to be SHUK-KWAN, YAT-HIN gets down on his knees and asks for her forgiveness.
S01:E27 - Captain of Destiny
Refusing to give in, Lady YIM endeavors to help YEE-TAI make a comeback. To her surprise, YEE-TAI indicates that she is no longer as influential as she once was. Therefore, Lady YIM becomes very angry at MAN-HO, which incidentally triggers her memories of the past, and she cannot help wondering how come MAN-HO was able to get well and make a full recovery after he got really sick at the age of four. Seeking to pry into the matter, Lady YIM goes to ask Lady SHUN for the secret cure for the scarlet fever, and she takes advantage of the situation to raise doubts about MAN-HO's sudden recovery. Ever since their submission to the government, CHEUNG PO-TSAI and the others have the government official titles conferred on them by the Emperor. With SHEK KIU pointing out that CHEUNG PO-TSAI's elder brother is still alive, CHEUNG PO-TSAI seeks aid from MAN-HO to locate him. After YAT-HIN gets back together with SHUK-KWAN, TAI-MUI goes to pay a visit to the couple, asking them to help her get back to the future. Through investigation, SIU-FU finds out that the one who saved CHEUNG PO-TSAI's elder brother is actually LEUNG GONG GONG, so MAN-HO goes to visit LEUNG GONG GONG. Making a sudden appearance, Lady SHUN and LAI GONG GONG blurt out that they can no longer keep it a secret that MAN-HO is not the biological son of the Emperor. Having heard this, MAN-HO storms out of the mausoleum; whereas YEE-TAI also comes to realise the whole thing, which will soon spiral into crisis.
S01:E28 - Captain of Destiny
Leading CHEUNG PO-TSAI and his men to make an audience with Emperor JIAQING, LAI GONG GONG hands the map of the South China Sea to CHEUNG PO-TSAI, instructing him to submit it to the Emperor. While CHEUNG PO-TSAI is presenting the scroll of the map to the Emperor, a dagger emerges at the end of the scroll, and right away, he becomes the prime suspect in an assassination attempt on the Emperor. Amid the chaos, CHEUNG PO-TSAI and the others are arrested and thrown in jail, so CHEUNG PO-TSAI misconceives that he was framed by MAN-HO. MAN-HO begs the Emperor's pardon for CHEUNG PO-TSAI, so the Emperor gives him three days to probe into the matter even though the Emperor starts getting suspicious. Showing little compunction, Lady SHUN confesses her sins to Goddess GUAN YIN and asks for forgiveness, during which MAN-HO shows up to ask Lady SHUN about the matter agitatedly. TAI-MUI goes to visit CHEUNG PO-TSAI in jail and relay MAN-HO's real identity to him, making him feel emotionally overwhelmed. Following MAN-HO's appearance, all of them claim that they will no longer trust him, adding that he is the mastermind behind everything. Meanwhile, YEE-TAI informs Lady YIM that MAN-HO is currently in the eastern mausoleum. Not wanting his real identity to be exposed, MAN-HO orders SIU-FU to offer protection to LEUNG GONG GONG. However, SIU-FU and HA SIM later find out that LEUNG GONG GONG has been taken into custody by YEE-TAI.
S01:E29 - Captain of Destiny
EMPEROR JIAQING becomes infuriated after realising MAN-HO's real identity. While Lady YIM is burning incense for worship, a little golden pagoda is struck by a lightning bolt, and the remains of a baby are discovered, which links to Lady SHUN's hidden secret of switching her late newborn with another one. Just as Lady YIM is getting carried away after learning about the secret, Emperor JIAQING appears and reiterates that they should keep it secret because it is embarrassing, eventually putting the two noble consorts to death. Right in front of the late Lady SHUN's coffin, MAN-HO and MAN-JING are so sad that they break out in tears. Following that, Emperor JIAQING gets very suspicious, so he summons MAN-HO to ask him about the progress of the alleged assassination attempt involving CHEUNG PO-TSAI, implying that someone must die. MAN-HO then goes to the jail in an attempt to arrange for CHEUNG PO-TSAI to flee. Apart from telling him that there will be a gun hidden in the following day's meal, MAN-HO also reveals that Prince MAN-HONG is going to show up the following day. However, the escape plan with the gun is botched, on the heels of which HA SIM and TAI-MUI are also thrown in jail. Pleading with Emperor JIAQING for mercy to release CHEUNG PO-TSAI and the others, MAN-HO is even willing to kill himself by taking poison, but is rejected by Emperor JIAQING. Without warning, MAN-HO takes out the Crown Prince's foot bell to threaten the Emperor, urging him to free CHEUNG PO-TSAI.
S01:E30 - Captain of Destiny
Eventually, Emperor JIAQING releases them. Having gone through many ups and downs, MAN-HO, CHEUNG PO-TSAI and the others feel all sorts of emotions well up inside them. As they arrive at the sea shore and come to a parting of ways, MAN-HO exhorts CHEUNG PO-TSAI to take good care of TAI-MUI while bidding a reluctant farewell to his long-lost younger brother, CHEUNG PO-TSAI, whom he recently united with. At last, with mixed feelings, they say goodbye to each other. LAI GONG GONG escorts the newly-installed little crown prince back to the imperial study room, coercing Emperor JIAQING into apologizing for the mistake he made earlier. Meanwhile, the pair of lovebirds, MAN-HO and HA SIM, remain on the run, during which MAN-HO suddenly asks HA SIM when she started to grow fond of him, so the pair finally have a heart-to-heart talk with each other. All of a sudden, thousands of troops emerge. With a flurry of arrows raining on them, MAN-HO and HA SIM ride the same horse, trying to break out of the siege, but no one knows whether they are still alive...... After CHEUNG PO-TSAI and the others return to Heroes’ Den, CHEUNG PO-TSAI decides to accompany TAI-MUI back to the future because he cannot bear to part with her. On the day when the pair are heading inside the waterspout, WUSONA once again shows up to cast a spell on them. In the middle of chaos, TAI-MUI is stabbed and wounded. Though the pair manage to travel through time to the 2015 Hong Kong, CHEUNG PO-TSAI out of the blue runs into the Bandit King, BOWIE.
S01:E31 - Captain of Destiny
TAI-MUI is rushed to the hospital for surgery after sustaining severe injuries; whereas the standoff between the two generations of the Bandit King, BOWIE and PO-TSAI, turns out to be a dead heat. CHEUNG PO-TSAI goes to the hospital to visit TAI-MUI only to find out that TAI-MUI suffers from amnesia! Having gone through the romantic setback, CHEUNG PO-TSAI returns to the luxury mansion. Out of the blue, he discovers a tattoo on his arm, which indicates he was jinxed with the spell cast by WUSONA, so he cannot help feeling himself stalemated. Through the oil painting that has been passed down from generation to generation within his family, BOWIE uncovers CHEUNG PO-TSAI's secret, on top of which he even finds a letter hidden behind the painting. Therefore, he makes up his mind. As TAI-MUI is recovering from her injuries, TAOGUO pays a visit to her, deliberately asking her to participate in the protection operation. Without hesitation, TAI-MUI agrees to do so while thinking it's a great opportunity for her to capture the Bandit King. CHEUNG PO-TSAI writes a letter to TAI-MUI, reminiscing about the time they spent together in the Qing Dynasty, following which he secretly puts the letter near her on her bed.
S01:E32 - Captain of Destiny
TAI-MUI is so touched by CHEUNG PO-TSAI's letter that she agrees to meet up with him as arranged two hundred years ago. Unfortunately, TAI-MUI emphasizes that she is no longer the same one as mentioned in the letter. On a different note, she asks CHEUNG PO-TSAI whether he knows BOWIE, suspecting BOWIE, the Bandit King, is up to something. BOWIE and his men discuss kidnapping TAOGUO and requests CHEUNG PO-TSAI to join them. Meanwhile, in order to protect TAOGUO, the venue is heavily guarded by the police and TAI-MUI is also dispatched to the site; whereas CHING SUM is in charge of the security inside the venue. With BOWIE along with his associates managing to sneak into the venue, CHEUNG PO-TSAI is assigned to be the sniper. Wreaking havoc in the venue, BOWIE and the other bandits once again take the hostage, prompting wave after wave of battles against the police. Out of the blue, TAI-MUI points the gun at CHEUNG PO-TSAI and shoots him directly at his heart. As the bullet goes through his chest, suddenly, TAI-MUI recalls their romance spanning over two hundred years, which is tragically ended by the bullet...
