8 Movies on Tubi for When Anxious and Excited Become the Same Feeling
Heists, close calls, bad decisions, and rapidly rising heart rates find the sweet spot between “I need to know what happens” and “I cannot watch this happen.”
Jonathan Levine’s 2000s cult slasher turns teenage obsession into a bloody weekend where knowing less is half the fun.
Watch NowEverybody loves Mandy Lane. Or at least, everybody has decided they want something from her.
So when the newly sought-after high-schooler accepts an invitation to spend the weekend at a secluded Texas ranch, attention follows. The boys want their chance. Friendships start feeling a little more competitive. Mandy remains somewhere in the middle of it all, quietly watching while everyone else gets louder about what they want, but then the weekend starts losing people.
All the Boys Love Mandy Lane knows you recognize the setup. Attractive teenagers? Present. Remote location? Concerningly present. Bad decisions? Give them time. Director Jonathan Levine uses that familiarity to his advantage, letting the movie resemble a slasher you've seen before while quietly giving you reasons not to trust your read on it.
Mandy is the biggest one. Amber Heard has said playing with expectations around the familiar “hot blonde” of teen horror was part of what drew her to the role. Everyone onscreen is busy deciding who Mandy is, what she wants, and what chance they have with her. The audience gets invited to make assumptions right alongside them. So we'll leave the ranch gates closed and let Tubi's Terror on Tubi handle the rest of your spooky-season plans. Mandy Lane deserves to introduce herself.
Everyone wants something from Mandy, while Heard makes sure the character never becomes as easy to read as the attention surrounding her suggests. Her quiet, observant performance lets other people project onto Mandy while small shifts in expression keep us wondering how much she's actually revealing. Heard even kept some distance from the other actors during filming, helping preserve the sense that Mandy is present in the group without ever feeling entirely part of it.
As the ranch hand overseeing the property, Garth exists comfortably outside the teenage competition consuming everyone else. Mount gives him a steadier, more grounded presence that cuts through the posturing around Mandy, making the adult in the room feel especially valuable once the weekend develops bigger problems.
Popular-girl confidence doesn't make Chloe immune to insecurity once Mandy enters the group. Able lets competition and vulnerability sit underneath the character's sharper edges, particularly as the attention around Mandy changes the social balance at the ranch. Chloe may understand the high-school hierarchy better than most, but that doesn't make losing her place in it any easier.
Emmet already lives outside the social circle pulling Mandy toward it, and Welch gives her longtime friend a mixture of loneliness, protectiveness, and resentment. His attachment to Mandy becomes more complicated as her popularity grows, with Welch making the fear of being left behind feel increasingly difficult for Emmet to hide.
“Everybody came to watch Mandy. Now the ranch is watching back.”
