Lethal Weapon is bringing buddy-cop chaos to Tubi

The 1987 action classic that helped define the buddy-cop movie is almost ready for another round.

Remind Me

Some action movies become references. Lethal Weapon became part of the grammar of the genre. The mismatched-cops setup, the volatile banter, the case that keeps getting bigger, the holiday setting with teeth, it all hits with the force of something that changed the playbook.

Mel Gibson is Martin Riggs, a reckless detective carrying more pain than he lets anyone see. Danny Glover is Roger Murtaugh, the family-man partner who wants order, procedure, and maybe one peaceful day at work. Together, they investigate a death that pulls them toward a drug smuggling operation with a long reach and no interest in leaving witnesses.

Richard Donner keeps the whole thing moving with grit, sharp timing, and real emotional weight under the explosions. Lethal Weapon arrives on Tubi soon, and it is worth having on your list before the sirens start.

The Cast

Mel Gibson as Martin Riggs

Gibson plays Martin Riggs like a live wire with a badge, grief, and zero interest in self-preservation. His energy gives the movie its danger, but the surprise is how much hurt sits underneath the chaos.

Danny Glover as Roger Murtaugh

Glover’s Roger Murtaugh is the grounded center of the movie, a family man pulled into a case that refuses to stay neat. His patience, humor, and slow-burn frustration make the partnership snap into place.

Gary Busey as Mr. Joshua

Busey brings ice-cold intensity to Mr. Joshua, the kind of villain who makes every room feel less safe the second he enters. He gives the movie a threat that feels personal, physical, and very hard to shake.

Mitchell Ryan as General McAllister

Ryan plays General McAllister with a calm menace that keeps the criminal machine humming in the background. He is not loud about power, which makes him even more dangerous as the case keeps widening.

“I’m too old for this case, but not too old to finish it.”

Why Watch It

Lethal Weapon works because the action has personality. The chases, shootouts, and bruising confrontations land hard, but the real engine is the friction between Riggs and Murtaugh. One man pushes every limit. The other keeps asking why there have to be limits in the first place.

It is also a sharper movie than its imitators suggest. The jokes have bite, the danger has consequences, and the partnership builds from suspicion into something that feels earned. That mix of nerve, heart, and mayhem is why people still talk about it decades later.

If your queue has room for R-rated crime thrills, classic action, or two detectives making each other worse and better at the same time, clear a spot. Lethal Weapon is coming soon to Tubi.
