Before Euphoria and The Odyssey, Zendaya Got Zapped

Before Zendaya was navigating the considerably heavier world of Euphoria, starring in Dune, stepping into Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, and generally making red carpets look like a competitive sport, she was one of Disney Channel's biggest young stars, with impeccable comedic timing, endless charisma, and a résumé full of wonderfully 2010s teenage problems.

Enter Zapped, a Disney Channel Original Movie starring Zendaya as Zoey Stevens, a 16-year-old navigating a new stepfamily, a new school, and a dog-training app that mysteriously develops the ability to control boys. Which is a sentence that could only have emerged from a very specific era of Disney Channel, and frankly, we respect the commitment. With the Emmys putting television back in the spotlight this month, consider this our excuse to rewind to a very different chapter of one of TV's biggest stars.

And Zapped has plenty of company in Tubi's Coming of Age collection, where growing up is already complicated enough before your phone develops supernatural abilities. For longtime Zendaya fans, it's a trip back to her Disney Channel era. For everybody else, welcome to the days when an app could apparently solve your problems instead of simply sending you another notification.
