Kyutaro deceives a client with a fake exorcism, but when neighbors and the landlord suspect him, he releases the cat?only to face a rogue samurai.

Plagued by fleas, Kyutaro visits a cat shop, receives advice from an old friend, and reflects on a painful memory of his daughter.

Kyutaro struggles with poverty and Tamanojo's loss of appetite. He seeks work and unexpectedly encounters an old acquaintance, samurai Kanbei Naito.

Kyutaro starts an umbrella repair job, but Tamanojo causes chaos. Seeking solace from Oshichi, hefs interrupted by constables investigating the cat.

Kyutaro's umbrellas are ruined again by Tamanojo. Seeking advice, he learns the cat needs play, but a couple offers to buy Tamanojo for two ryo.

Kyutaro takes Tamanojo for a walk, splits firewood, and visits a cat cafe. Afterward, they find Wakana's stall vandalized.

Kyutaro seeks a new job, but when old rivals appear, he's led to a confrontation with Tachibana, Takeshita, and Naito on the town's outskirts.

Kyutaro deceives Sakichi, then escapes with Wakana and Tamanojo. They hide, considering returning the cat, but fear for their lives.

Kyutaro agrees to lose a match for Naito's sake, while Sakichi returns the cat jar, breaking the seal and releasing its contents.

Kyutaro abandons the match to save Tamanojo. At the hideout, Wakana defies Hachitani, hiding the cat, as the swordsman prepares to strike.
