Saving Hope

The whole staff of Hope Zion is called in for questioning one by one by the hospital board regarding Charlie’s (Michael Shanks) bizarre and erratic behavior. Although Charlie is not privy to what is being said, Spirit Amos (Don McKellar) is listening in and reporting back to Charlie – in a misleading manner – on what his co-workers are saying about him. The board does not get the chance to finish their review, as Charlie quits before he can be fired. Meanwhile, Alex monitors Layla, (Missy Peregrym) the new age self-help guru, post her awake surgery, and Layla convinces Alex to allow her to perform some of her new age techniques on Alex to open her blocks and begin to heal her, in turn. The results of Layla’s technique cause Alex to flash through her history with Charlie and, for just a moment, she is able to see Spirit Amos, allowing her to finally better understand what Charlie is going through. Though he is reluctant to do so, Shahir (Huse Madhavji) agrees to perform an in-utero spina bifida surgery on a fetus of a university student who is putting the baby up for adoption. After Shahir saves the baby’s life and improves its prognosis, the mother asks Shahir if he and Jonathan will adopt the baby, which he happily accepts.
