Polly and the girls return home from a play to find out that their pet bird Lemon has died, and Mac has unceremoniously thrown the bird in the trash. Trying to make amends, Mac brings home a cat, which he must give away immediately, because Polly is allergic to cats. Mac is accused of insensitivity when he continually makes snap decisions without consulting the other family members. Though his intentions are well-meaning, the communication breakdown forces Polly to suggest they could visit a family therapist.
