Attempting to elevate the level of intimacy in her relationship with her boyfriend, things get awkward after Sam coerces her boyfriend into engaging in lunch lady role play. When things turn even more sour and she gets dumped, Sam goes to a friend of a friend's bachelorette party and wallows in her newfound loneliness. Overhearing Sam pleading on the phone to her now ex, Nina comforts her. The two quickly bond and decide to hold a celebration of their own.

After a night out, Sam awakes late for work to find Nina cuddling her very tightly. When she leaves, two of Nina's spiritually enlightened friends track her phone to Sam's apartment and bring over freshly baked chocolate chip and cannabis cookies. Sam returns from a particularly grueling simulated date to discover the three inebriated women playing with bubbles in her bathtub. Nina and her friends rush out of the apartment, and Sam enjoys a cookie herself.

Nina's ex, Zoe, buys her a ticket to Los Angeles in order to meet with a spiritual guru named Bob. Sam wants better clients, but after voicing her opinion, her boss sends her a guy that pushes her limits as a dating coach. When Nina interrupts a spirituality class to sell pills, she discovers that the teacher's quite a snob when it comes to the drugs that he's willing to ingest. Zoe's new girlfriend is enrolled in the class, and Nina snags her number.

NIna hooks up with her ex-girlfriend's current girlfriend, Aurora. After receiving an extremely scathing Yelp review, Nina gets fired from her job as a drug dealer. Aurora and Nina speculate about the reviewer's mental state and brainstorm some new job prospects for Nina. Meanwhile, Sam battles her boss over a series of alterations to her physical appearance that her boss thinks will transform her into a more approachable dating coach. Sam and Nina bond over wine and gluten-free puff pastries.

After partying irresponsibly the previous night, Nina and Sam head to their spiritual bootcamp in the morning. NIna's phone gets confiscated and buried in the garden when she refuses to pay attention during their first instruction. When faced with the task of destroying sentimentally cherished possessions, Nina and Sam both struggle to release. Not wanting to forfeit during the first day of their spiritual awakening, the women must drink their own urine to move forward with the enlightenment.

Zoe nonchalantly confronts NIna about Nina having slept with Aurora, encouraging her to reflect upon her actions. At a meditation ceremony, the instructor administers hallucinogenic medicine to help the students to uncover their new selves. One student justifies having taken Clay's wallet at the previous ceremony, to Sam and Nina's bewilderment and suspicion. After ingesting the dubious beverage, Nina's agonized by overwhelming visions, while Sam seems to experience hers much more enjoyably.

Nina and Aurora spend the day at the beach and talk about Nina's life changing experience the previous day. Despite her conversation with Zoe, Nina continues to hook up with Aurora. Meanwhile, Sam opens up to her new companion, Clay, describing her hallucinogenic adventure to him. While describing herself as an onion with rotten layers, Sam comprehensively conveys her own spiritual awakening. Aurora tries to convince Nina to have a threesome with Zoe.

Aurora coerces Nina into waxing despite her aversion. They decide to have a threesome with Zoe in order to restore the balance in their relationships and further advance their spiritual awakenings. Clay romantically takes Sam for a ride on his moped and drives them to a couple's colonic session, where they meet with Clay's anal advisor, Talia. Talia convinces Sam to follow through with the session, and Clay admits that he's previously taken two other girls to Talia.

Aurora and Zoe force Nina into a friendship bag, a fully encapsulating body suit that, while intended to soothe, induces Nina's claustrophobia and causes her to rethink her relationships with the other two women. When Sam and Clay go all the way, they prove that sex and spiritual awakening don't have to be mutually exclusive experiences. After Nina starts to suffocate while Aurora and Zoe continue to hook up beside her, she realizes that she's had enough of the psuedo spiritual nonsense that everyone's been peddling and embraces that her time in LA is coming to an end.
