Snow and Ashes

Scouts are sent to another partisan detachment where they see that the camp is empty, all are killed. In the distance, there is a knock of axes: saboteurs pretending to be partisans are chopping wood to put log on the road for German tanks which will soon arrive by train on an abandoned narrow gauge railway. Urusov by himself identifies and incapacitates the saboteur who appears to be the photographer Chapkis, but someone kills the arrested criminal almost immediately - and Urusov realizes that someone was standing over Chapkis. While the scouts hijack a train with tanks to blow up, Urusov confronts a talented and brutal enemy, a real evil genius - Colonel Velyaminov.
