Ex-policeman Jackson Brodie is working as a private eye when he meets sisters Amelia and Julia Land, who ask him to investigate the disappearance of their little sister Olivia thirty years earlier. Meanwhile, Theo Wynne enlists Brodie to examine the recent murder of his teenaged daughter and Jackson begins having vivid flashbacks of the traumatic murder of his sister years ago.
