Brother's Keeper

LAW WAI-SHUN, owner of Pasteleria Law Shun Kei, is a very hard working boss. His childhood friend YIU MAN-YING is supporting him always at work and in everyday life. She arranges a magazine interview for him and WAI-SHUN reveals that the most influential person in his life is his half-brother KIU TIN-SENG. WAI-SHUN always go to TIN-SENG's girlfriend CHEUK CHING's boutique to check if she has got any updates from TIN-SANG. WAI-SHUN's mother CHOW YUK-MUI is doing voluntary works at the elderly center and WAI-SHUN goes to pick her up. Since they always fail to find TIN-SENG, YUK-MUI believes that TIN-SENG doesn't want to meet them. WAI-SHUN and CHEUK CHING are kidnapped at Tung Chung. MAN-YING receives a call from the kidnapper asking for 50 million dollars and warning her not to call the police. The kidnapper shows MAN-YING a video of WAI-SHUN to prove that he is safe. MAN-YING saves the video and she finds the place familiar. After discovering the whereabouts of WAI-SHUN, she immediately calls the police. On the other hand, WAI-SHUN tries to rescue CHEUK CHING when the kidnapper is not paying attention. WAI-SHUN provides information to the police but he tries not to reveal that one of the kidnappers is TIN-SENG. MAN-YING discovers that WAI-SHUN is hiding something. WAI-SHUN believes that TIN-SENG has his own reasons and he insists that TIN-SENG was a caring brother...

TIN-SENG and WAI-SHUN go to Hong Kong together illegally. TIN-SENG returns to Hang Mei Tsuen of Yuen Long to look for his father but his father has moved out already. TIN-SENG learns from the newspaper that Hong Kong government will cancel the Touch Base Policy at midnight and they rush to the town for registration. The taxi-driver suspects that they are penniless and the two brothers run away. WAI-SHUN fails to arrive at the immigration office on time. The brothers return to their old home and they discover that their mother YUK-MUI is looking for them there. YUK-MUI asks them to return to their hometown but TIN-SANG insists to stay in Hong Kong to find his father. Since WAI-SHUN and YUK-MUI do not have any identification document, WAI-SHUN suggests going to Macau instead. TIN-SANG starts working at the salon and he has a fight with the customer LI WAI-BING. TIN-SENG finally meets his father KIU SUM. KIU SUM arranges a place for TIN-SENG to stay and he gives him money as well. However, he doesn't want TIN-SENG to visit him again. TIN-SENG accidentally discovers that KIU SUM is acting intimately with WAI-BING...

While working as an illegal worker, YUK-MUI gets to know Mrs KWOK and Mrs KWOK invites her to work at her place. YUK-MUI's husband LAW FU-SHING comes to Macau to look for her. FU-SHING is not satisfied with his work and he decides to sell peanut candies there. MAN-YING's father YIU HANG operates Long Fok Hotel in Macau but he doesn't like his daughter at all. MAN-YING has to study and do cleaning works at the hotel at the same time. The Macau government is issuing residence permit to illegal immigrants. WAI-SHUN believes that he could study in the school but FU-SHING forces him to quit schooling. In order to continue his studies, TIN-SENG lives frugally. He works in the daytime and attends evening school at night. In 1991, TIN-SENG has become a CID sergeant. Inspired by Mrs KWOK's daughter HOI-LAM, WAI-SHUN starts selling on the street at Ruins of St Paul's secretly. When he passes by Kwai Hing Lung Bakery, he discovers that the staffs are distributing free candies for son of the owner, LUNG FEI, has returned from abroad after finishing his studies. WAI-SHUN takes a bag of candies and he decides to improve his father's peanut candies after tasting those free candies...

YUK-MUI buys high quality peanuts for WAI-SHUN to make the peanut candies. HO-NAM wants WAI-SHUN to compensate him for the Feng Shui mascot. He carelessly discloses that WAI-SHUN has thrown away all the peanut candies and FU-SHING is enraged. TIN-SENG will move to his colleague MAN-CHI's building soon. He decides to take leave afterwards to look for his mother and younger brother at Foshan. CHEUK LING and CHEUK CHING's father is a famous rich man. Their mother LAI-KUEN wants them to get married soon. Policeman KIU WAI-KIN is the son of KIU SUM and WAI-BING. KIU SUM learns from him that TIN-SENG is working in the police force as well and he goes to visit him. YIU HANG's nephew HO-TIN goes to the hotel to announce that his father has got half of the shares of Long Fok Hotel and he wants to take over the hotel. LUNG FEI falls into HO-TIN's trap and he owes him 50 thousand dollars after gambling with him. WAI-SHUN starts selling his new peanut candies. After tasting the candies, people ask him for the shop's name. WAI-SHUN doesn't know how to reply and MAN-YING quickly gives them the name Law Shun Kei...

Gangster CHOI falls down from a building accidentally after being threatened by WAI-KIN. WAI-KIN lies that TIN-SENG has released the suspect intentionally. KIU SUM is transferred to TIN-SENG's district and he becomes TIN-SENG's boss. WAI-BING asks KIU SUM to speak for their son in front of the supervisors. People discover that LUNG FEI's certificate in Business Administration is fake. LUNG FEI cries sadly and WAI-SHUN encourages him to concentrate on selling dried pork. KIU SUM asks TIN-SENG to follow up some old cases and to carry out a duty in Macau. TIN-SENG is not pleased. TIN-SENG says that he has no prospect anymore but his colleague MAN-CHI says that KIU SUM is a famous good boss. TIN-SENG reveals to WAI-BING and WAI-KIN that he is KIU SUM's son. CHEUK CHING decides to attend her idol's art exhibition in Macau but her mother takes away her ID card and she urges her sister to help her. TIN-SENG goes to Macau to carry out his duty and CHEUK CHING arrives at Macau as well...

TIN-SENG is assigned to work in Macau and CHEUK CHING also arrives at Macau for the art exhibition. MAN-YING goes to Ruins of St Paul's to chase WAI-SHUN for the compensation of Feng Shui mascot. WAI-SHUN runs away and MAN-YING chases after him all the way to an art gallery. CHEUK CHING is attracted by the smell of peanut candies and WAI-SHUN is mesmerized by her beauty. FU-SHING discovers that YUK-MUI is buying peanuts for WAI-SHUN to make peanut candies and he takes away Law Shun Kei's signboard angrily. During the fight, YUK-MUI falls on the ground. MAN-YING finds him unbearable and she scolds FU-SHING. YUK-MUI persuades WAI-SHUN to apologize to his father. FU-SHING agrees to allow him to sell peanut candies but he should use Law Kei's signboard instead. WAI-SHUN follows his mother's advice and apologizes to his father. CHEUK CHING tries to design FABIO's evening dress secretly and she arrives at a tailor shop in a factory building. When she departs, she is captured by the kidnapper...

The kidnapper pushes CHEUK CHING out of the window in the factory building and CHEUK CHING tries to hold the air-conditioner's steel bracket tightly. TIN-SENG arrives to rescue her and they both fall onto a lorry. The kidnapper jumps onto the lorry as well. TIN-SENG starts a fight with him and he finally subdues him. The lorry is crashed into a roadside curb and TIN-SENG rescues CHEUK CHING before explosion. LAI-KUEN visits CHEUK CHING at the hospital and she is very concerned if CHEUK CHING's face is injured. She scolds the police for fighting with the kidnapper without clearing the area first. CHEUK CHING, however, is concerned about TIN-SENG's condition. LAI-KUEN is afraid that the reporters will take pictures of them and she brings CHEUK CHING away swiftly. CHEUK CHING misses TIN-SENG very much after returning home. LAI-KUEN accompanies CHEUK CHING to give information to the police at the police station and she discovers that TIN-SENG keeps looking at CHEUK CHING secretly. CHEUK CHING leaves a thank you card with her phone number on TIN-SENG's desk. She waits for his phone call for the whole night but TIN-SENG has not called her.

LUNG FEI sends many boxes of almond cakes to MAN-YING at Long Fok Hotel but MAN-YING reacts coldly. WAI-SHUN says that LUNG FEI is not doing it at the right time and he offers suggestions for him to pursue MAN-YING. LUNG FEI sings to MAN-YING at Long Fok Hotel and he sends her roses. MAN-YING reveals that she is only interested in guys with ambitions in life and she hopes that LUNG FEI will give up. LAI-KUEN doesn't want CHEUK CHING to meet TIN-SENG again for this will ruin their family's reputation and lower her status in the family. CHEUK CHING is angry that LAI-KUEN only cares about herself. She reveals her true feelings to LAI-KUEN and LAI-KUEN slaps her on her face. CHEUK CHING runs away and she keeps calling TIN-SENG. TIN-SENG calls her back but he hangs up the phone immediately. TIN-SENG learns that the complaint is withdrawn and he visits CHEUK CHING after work. He reveals that he will never give her up even if LAI-KUEN keeps making a complaint on him. It is raining heavily. The two of them enter the telephone booth and start kissing each other...

TIN-SENG rents a place for CHEUK CHING to open her fashion design workshop. CHEUK CHING is overjoyed and she appreciates his attentiveness. KAM-HO urges his subordinates to chase after the thief leader who robbed many jewelry shops and TIN-SENG suggests paying attention to the area with many jewelry shops. WAI-SHUN, MAN-YING and LUNG FEI arrive at Hong Kong. WAI-SHUN tries to look for his elder brother and LUNG FEI accompanies MAN-YING to visit the lawyer. The three of them agree to meet up at noon outside the law firm. WAI-SHUN and the others hear the sound of guns and they believe that somebody is burning firecrackers or shooting a movie. They try to take a look but they discover that this is a real gunfight and they try to hide away. WAI-SHUN discovers TIN-SENG's talisman on the floor and he suspects that the police who rescued him is TIN-SENG. The brothers finally reunite with each other and WAI-SHUN brings TIN-SENG to Macau immediately to meet up with their mother. YUK-MUI is very excited to meet TIN-SENG again. FU-SHING scolds TIN-SENG for making the whole family suffering from poverty in Macau...

TIN-SENG and WAI-SHUN return to Hong Kong together. TIN-SENG meets KEUNG YUNG again and he is surprised that KEUNG YUNG knows his current situation very well. KEUNG YUNG thanks TIN-SENG for what he did long time ago but TIN-SENG wants to keep a distance from him. WAI-SHUN meets Uncle KUEN again who works as a restaurant manager now. Uncle KUEN invites WAI-SHUN to learn cooking from the restaurant chef. TIN-SENG worries that WAI-SHUN will have no time to study but he still supports his decision. After learning from the chef, WAI-SHUN prepares dishes for TIN-SENG and TIN-SENG finds it very delicious. WAI-SHUN is overjoyed to meet CHEUK CHING again on the street. LAI-KUEN asks private detective to find the whereabouts of CHEUK CHING's workshop. She then goes there to scold TIN-SENG for pursuing CHEUK CHING because of her money. She believes that a poor policeman like TIN-SENG is not able to offer a good future to CHEUK CHING. CHEUK CHING finds her mother's humiliation on TIN-SENG unbearable and she kicks her away. She then reveals her background to TIN-SENG and she believes that her father will stop her from continuing the workshop but she doesn't want to give up her dream. TIN-SENG promises to face all obstacles with her.

HO-TIN brings his deceased father's bone ash to Long Fok and he asks YIU HANG to compensate 500 thousand dollars to him but MAN-YING believes that the bone ash is fake. MAN-YING worries about the lawyer's fee for the court case against HO-TIN and she decides to earn money by working outside. MAN-YING discovers that HO-NAM is interested in the restaurant's waitress SIU-HUNG. LUNG FEI suggests hiring SIU HUNG so that HO-NAM will concentrate himself at work. WAI-SHUN decides to sell peanut candies on the street. TIN-SENG and MARK continue to carry out investigation secretly. They suspect that a person called CHUNG KWOK-PO is the key person. LUNG FEI brings MAN-YING to a job interview at the insurance company and MAN-YING becomes an insurance broker. CHEUK LING discovers that LAI-KUEN is lying to CHEUK CHING but LAI-KUEN asks her to keep the secret. WAI-SHUN delivers peanut candies to CHEUK CHING's place and he discovers that TIN-SENG is her boyfriend. TIN-SENG follows KWOK-PO and he discovers FU-SHING. He suspects that FU-SHING is involved in illegal betting on horse racing as well...

TIN-SENG reports to KAM-HO about his investigation on illegal betting on horse racing. KAM-HO reminds TIN-SENG not to tell WAI-KIN for WAI-KIN may inform KIU SUM about it. MAN-YING goes to meet up with a big client Boss CHEUNG and she discovers LUNG FEI drinking with Boss CHEUNG already. LUNG FEI vomits seriously after drinking and MAN-YING takes care of him. WAI-KIN finds TIN-SENG suspicious and he asks his subordinate LIGHTER to follow him. MARK gives TIN-SENG the photo of FU-SHING meeting KWOK-PO and TIN-SENG asks FU-SHING to help him with the investigation. TIN-SENG finds KAI-BEN. KAO-BEN runs away and he tries to commit suicide but TIN-SENG persuades him to stop it successfully. However, KIU SUM arrives and he forces TIN-SENG to release him. With the help of KEUNG YUNG, TIN-SENG arrests KWOK-PO successfully. FU-SHING blames TIN-SENG for making trouble deliberately. He asks YUK-MUI and WAI-SHUN to return to Macau with him or he will divorce YUK-MUI. TIN-SENG knows that WAI-SHUN is caught in a dilemma and he persuades him to return to Macau. He also gives him some money to develop his peanut candy business.

FU-SHING reveals that he will quit gambling. YUK-MUI and WAI-SHUN play tricks so that FU-SHING will allow WAI-SHUN to use his own signboard when selling peanut candies. KAM-HO praises TIN-SENG for his good performance and he recommends TIN-SENG to become an inspector. TIN-SENG meets up with KIU SUM and he humiliates him. When YIU HANG lent money to HO-TIN's father long time ago, Uncle YUN was the witness. Uncle YUN suddenly arrives at Long Fok but he forgets everything after a traffic accident. Uncle YUN's son ON CHAI hopes to help regaining his memory. YIU HANG has got important evidence and he reaches an agreement with HO-TIN outside the court. MAN-YING thanks WAI-SHUN for his help and she treats him to dinner. LUNG FEI declares his love to MAN-YING again and MAN-YING rejects him firmly. WAI-SHUN distributes black sesame brittle candies to people. AH YING, volunteer of the elderly center, suggests him to distribute candies to the elderly and WAI-SHUN agrees. MAN-YING reminds WAI-SHUN that peanut candies are too hard for old people and WAI-SHUN decides to make egg rolls for them.

People queue up to buy Law Shun Kei's candies. They are the daughters and sons of the old people in the elderly center. A customer from Hong Kong reveals that the peanut candies taste like the candies he ate in childhood. Law Shun Kei's name appears on Hong Kong's newspapers. WAI-SHUN believes that the business will be growing swiftly and he wants to open a shop. FU-SHING and YUK-MUI object the idea but MAN-YING supports him and she promises to help him after work. TIN-SENG is the one with best performance for three consecutive years and he becomes very famous in the police force. KEUNG YUNG uses the name LUI KIN to invest on movies. He meets TIN-SENG during the celebration party. They start a quarrel and fight with each other. MAN-YING is promoted to district manager and she still goes to help WAI-SHUN after work. Hong Kong people invest in the stock market enthusiastically. TIN-SENG's godfather wants to give it a try too but TIN-SENG reminds him not to listen to other's tips easily...

A suspicious man try to harm YAT-FAN and TIN-SENG rescues him. YAT-FAN discusses the stock market with TIN-SENG and he offers some insider tips to him. MAN-YING learns that Snake King KEUNG's shop has been emptied for 2 months already and she helps WAI-SHUN to buy the shop. WAI-SHUN learns from HO-NAM that MAN-YING tries to borrow money humbly for him. MAN-YING is bitten by a snake and WAI-SHUN carries her to the hospital immediately. MAN-YING feels happy that WAI-SHUN cares about her so much. FABIO has got an outstanding professional woman award and she celebrates with YAT-FAN who nominated her. FABIO reveals that her designer will help to design the staff's uniform of her hotel. YAT-FUN discovers CHEUK CHING at FABIO's company and he agrees to allow CHEUK CHING to design the uniform for his company. NANCY scolds LAI-KUEN for spreading rumors about her in front of YAT-FAN. YAT-FAN reveals that he already knew that NANCY and her son was cheating...

FABIO reveals to the police that she wants to provide more information. She actually wants to see TIN-SENG again but she fails. TIN-SENG plays golf with YAT-FAN and YAT-FAN reveals that TIN-SENG is not qualified to be CHEUK CHING's boyfriend yet. Law Shun Kei is opened and TIN-SENG goes to Macau to congratulate WAI-SHUN. He brings CHEUK CHING to meet up with his mother and YUK-MUI is overjoyed. KEUNG YUNG's ex-girlfriend, movie star CANDY, has died after taking too much drugs. Since she has quarreled with KEUNG YUNG before, KIU SUM asks MAN-CHI to question KEUNG YUNG. When MAN-CHI returns the evidence materials, she is almost caught in a car accident and she later discovers that one of the evidences is missing. Long Fok's business is improving and YIU HANG praises his daughter for her promotional tactics. WAI-SHUN's shop has got no business. MAN-YING resigns and she lies to WAI-SHUN that she is taking leaves to help him at the shop so that he could sell on the street. They drink beers by the sea in the evening and MAN-YING reveals her love to WAI-SHUN after getting drunk...

Two Japanese tourists visit Law Shun Kei. MAN-YING successfully persuades them to buy their products. WAI-SHUN decides to make the best almond cake in Macau. He buys all the almond cakes in Macau with MAN-YING to investigate them. The case is closed. FABIO invites TIN-SENG and his colleagues to dinner. TIN-SENG and the others bring FABIO to try the food at sidewalk snack booth. LUNG FEI hears rumors of MAN-YING from the neighbors. YIU HANG is nervous and he urges MAN-YING to return home. Law Shun Kei has earned money and WAI-SHUN asks MAN-YING to open a bank account with her name but FU-SHING is dissatisfied. KWONG-KAM and the others learn that MAN-YING and WAI-SHUN are lovers and they asks LUNG FEI to give up. TIN-SENG learns that MAN-CHI has lost an evidence and he suspects that there is a hidden traitor in their team. TIN-SENG visits KEUNG YUNG and he unmasks him. TIN-SENG gets information from KEUNG YUNG for further investigation and he suspects that the traitor is...

TIN-SENG elaborates the case and he asks others to carry out investigation on the investment manager CLARKSON. WAI-SHUN reveals that some customers comment that their package is not good and MAN-YING helps to improve the package design. When WAI-SHUN and MAN-YING are kissing, WAI-SHUN suddenly gets inspiration to make a new product with egg roll, pork floss and seaweed. MIMI seeks help from KEUNG YUNG and she gives him the thing that CANDY gave her before she died. KAM-HO asks his subordinates to take action and he informs his godfather secretly that they should find MIMI. KEUNG YUNG gives the evidence to TIN-SENG. He asks TIN-SENG to get rid of Sister HA who is a major drug distributor. KAM-HO reveals that he has recommended TIN-SENG for promotion. He asks TIN-SENG to get rid of KEUNG YUNG. KIU SUM asks MAN-CHI to carry out investigation on KAM-HO, TIN-SENG and Sister HA without letting TIN-SENG knows. KIU SUM finds KAM-HO suspicious. Since KAM-HO recommended TIN-SENG for promotion, KIU SUM suspects that TIN-SENG is doing illegal things with him as well.

TIN-SENG has been working hard to upgrade himself for CHEUK CHING and LAI-KUEN finally accepts him. CHEUK CHING's partner JOYCE will be returning to England with her husband and LAI-KUEN suggests her to take up JOYCE's shop. Hong Kong is returned to China in July 1997. TIN-SENG continues to achieve excellent results in his career and he becomes the chief inspector. His father KIU SUM has retired. The social public order of Macau is getting worse and Law Shun Kei's business is very poor. MAN-YING suggests WAI-SHUN to sell candies on the street. During a meeting with people from the same industry, WAI-SHUN suggests everybody to join hand together and refuse to pay protection fees but KWONG-KAM objects the idea. FU-SHING is sent to the hospital because of heart disease. MAN-YING therefore decides to borrow money from her father but she is shocked that SIU-HUNG has stolen their money. MAN-YING and WAI-SHUN discover that the gang leader AH WAH is LUNG FEI's cousin. They suspect that KWONG-KAM has colluded with AH WAH. AH WAH's people attack WAI-SHUN and MAN-YING. They then set Law Shun Kei on fire...

TIN-SENG helps WAI-SHUN to seek help from a guy called Mr YIK. WAI-SHUN and MAN-YING discover that Mr YIK is AH WAH. WAI-SHUN scolds TIN-SENG that it is no good to work with the gangsters and he says that TIN-SENG has changed. The door of Law Shun Kei is locked by somebody. WAI-SHUN and MAN-YING has no choice but to sell their products on the street. YAT-FAN's secretary SUSAN reveals that CHEUK CHING's uniform design for the cosmetics shop has created positive impact to their business. LAI-KUEN seizes the chance to praises TIN-SENG and she asks YAT-FAN to accept him as well. WAI-KIN becomes the senior inspector of the Complaints & Internal Investigations Branch. He personally believes that TIN-SENG is involved in illegal matters. KEUNG YUNG asks TIN-SENG to reallocate the manpower at Heung Shing Building so that he could transfer his pirated discs to another location. However, the gang leader DINO died at Heung Shing Building. WAI-KIN suspects that TIN-SENG is involved in the case and he carries out investigation on him. His supervisor assigns MAN-CHI to work with him...

After returning from Hong Kong, WAI-SHUN hides away to pick up his phone calls all the time. MAN-YING reveals to LUNG FEI that there is a big gap between her and WAI-SHUN lately. MAN-YING tells WAI-SHUN that it is time to get married. WAI-SHUN reveals to her that CHEUK CHING is pretending that she has forgotten everything. WAI-SHUN's good friend SIU WAI-YIN and his wife JUDY return from abroad and they are planning to open a bakery. However, they have bought some poor quality second-hand machines carelessly and they urgently need 180 thousand dollars to settle the problem. WAI-SHUN lends money to them without a second thought. TIN-SENG decides to buy the flat he used to stay with CHEUK CHING. WAI-SHUN persuades him not to do so and he reveals that CHEUK CHING has remembered everything already. WAI-SHUN lends money to JUDY again. MAN-YING finds it suspicious and they start a quarrel. MAN-YING learns from LUNG FEI that WAI-YIN and his wife are planning to open a shop near Law Shun Kei. She immediately goes to question them. MAN-YING is arrested for attacking others. After thinking through the matter seriously in the detention jail, she decides to seek an answer from WAI-SHUN. MAN-YING is exhausted and she doesn't want to continue working at Law Shun Kei. She wants to separate with WAI-SHUN as well...
