The Forgotten Valley

LUK SHUI-FUNG, his wife LAW KWAI-SZE and YUEN TIN-YAU return to town from abroad. After settling down, SHUI-FUNG decides to return to Ping On Valley since it is very far away. SHUI-FUNG tells KAM-KUK that he returns to look for the gold mine. KAM-KUK asks him to keep the secret and he proposes to arrange marriage for him but SHUI-FUNG rejects him. SHUI-FUNG meets up with KAM-KUK's first concubine SUNG MING-FUNG as well as the second concubine. SHUI-FUNG's mother NG SIN-CHI prays in the temple and she is overjoyed to see her son. SHUI-FUNG suddenly hears the sound of a crying child and SIN-CHI tells him that this is his younger brother SHUI-FU. The third concubine TIN CHOR-YAT arrives and SIN-CHI tells SHUI-FUNG that CHOR-YAT is his fourth mother instead of the maid now. SHUI-FUNG is shocked. KAM-KUK and SHUI-FUNG invite the villagers to a banquet. The villagers say that many mysterious incidents have happened recently. WAI-CHUNG suspects that the incidents were caused by the ghost widow. SHUI-FUNG visits SHUI-HUNG for a discussion and they suddenly hear the sound of barking dogs. They try to check it out and discover that some children with lanterns are singing scary songs...

The retired butler Old CHOW says goodbye to MING-FUNG. As arranged by MING-FUNG, he breaks the family antiques innocently and MING-FUNG asks him to make compensation with all his salaries. KAM-KUK brings a group of villagers to the ancestral hall to worship the ancestors and to select a date for SHUI-FUNG's wedding. The villagers suggest to build a statue of the ghost widow for offering sacrifices but KAM-KUK objects the idea. SHUI-FUNG proposes SHUI-HUNG to diguise himself as a bandit to kidnap the bride but he is shocked that the bridal sedan chair has arrived eventually and he suspects that this is the ghost widow...

SIN-CHI and KWAI-SZE quarrel with each other since KWAI-SZE has sent SIU-SUEN a photo album. KWAI-SZE and MING-FUNG are having opposing views and SHUI-FUNG tries to mediate between them. KAM-KUK goes to the ancestral hall and asks KAM-KONG to light up the lantern. KAM-KONG falls down from the ladder and he loses consciousness. SHUI-HUNG steals KWAI-SZE's camera. He tells SHUI-FUNG that the camera has captured the spirit of KAM-KONG and he steals the camera to rescue KAM-KONG. In order to find the camera, KWAI-SZE enters the ancestral hall where women are not allowed. The villagers ask KAM-KUK to punish her. SHUI-FUNG rescues KWAI-SZE but KWAI-SZE pushes him into the water. KWAI-SZE returns to the village to declare that she will not leave SHUI-FUNG. KAM-KUK is very angry and he collapses. KWAI-SZE discovers that KAM-KUK suffers from food poisoning. She requests KAM-KUK to cancel her punishment and accept her as his daughter-in-law if she could find the poisoner. After investigation, KWAI-SZE thinks that KAM-KUK's wife and concubines are all suspicious.

When KO-HING reports SHUI-FUNG and his wife's whereabouts to MING-FUNG, MING-FUNG's uncle PAK-YU arrives to borrow money from her again but she rejects him. KWAI-SZE discloses to everybody that KAM-KUK was poisoned after taking impotence medicine and KAM-KUK stops her. SHUI-FUNG returns to clarify that KAM-KUK was poisoned after drinking the almond tea made with bitter almond. KAM-KUK is enraged and he bits MING-FUNG madly. KAM-KUK announces to all villagers that he will cancel the punishment for KWAI-SZE but he refuses to recognize her as his daughter-in-law. SIN-CHI asks the medium to invite Guanyin as SHUI-FU's godmother. KAM-KUK requests CHOR-YAT to follow SIN-CHI's instructions and he asks SHUN-LEE to be SHUI-FU's nursing mother. SHUI-FUNG and KWAI-SZE bring SIU-SUEN to the countryside for photo taking. SIN-CHI teases her for being boorish and she worries that nobody will marry her. KWAI-SZE believes that girls should have a balanced development but MING-FUNG doesn't agree with it.

KWAI-SZE prepares western breakfast deliberately and SHUI-FUNG invites KAM-KUK to try but KAM-KUK refuses to recognize KWAI-SZE as his daughter-in-law. KO-HING discovers SIU-SUEN's handkerchief at the door with a note informing them that SIU-SUEN was kidnapped and a hundred silver dollars of ransom money is requested. MING-FUNG complains that KWAI-SZE has taught SIU-SUEN cycling. KAM-KUK thinks that it is difficult to raise a hundred silver dollars. When MING-FUNG has raised a hundred silver dollars, the kidnappers suddenly decide to increase the amount to two hundred silver dollars. MING-FUNG tries to seek help from SIN-CHI but SIN-CHI rejects her. She then begs MAN-YEE to speak for her in front of KAM-KUK but MAN-YEE seizes the chance to scold her. SHUI-FUNG persuades KAM-KUK to offer help but KAM-KUK says that the family is penniless and he wishes that SHUI-FUNG could find the gold mine soon. KWAI-SZE brings a fund-raising box and banner to the ancestral hall to raise money from the villagers. A group of male villagers try to tease her. MING-FUNG finally arrives to beg everybody...

SHUI-FUNG rescues SIU-SUEN but she has lost consciousness already. KAM-CHO performs acupuncture for her and she screams madly when she wakes up. KWAI-SZE suggests to send her to the western doctor. SHUI-FUNG invites the western doctor KA TUNG-YEUNG to treat her. TUNG-YEUNG and his daughter MIU-MIU are renting a room at KAM-CHO's place. MIU-MIU begs TUNG-YEUNG to let her out but he rejects her. TUNG-YEUNG suspects that SIU-SUEN's brain is injured. When he returns home, he discovers that PAK-HANG has prepared meal for MIU-MIU and he is very thankful. PAK-HANG's husband CHEUNG-SAU learns about it and he hits her fiercely. PAK-HANG airs her grievances to TUNG-YEUNG but TUNG-YEUNG is not able to help her. CHEUNG-SAU suddenly dies and his granduncle PAK-SHUI requests to bury PAK-HANG alive with CHEUNG-SAU. KAM-CHO agrees but SHUI-FUNG objects it. PAK-HANG prays for protection at Mountain God Temple. In the evening, SHUI-HUNG and a few villagers discover the ghost bride in wedding gown.

SHUI-FUNG tells PAK-SHUI that he wants to rescue PAK-HANG but PAK-SHUI objects it. SHUI-FUNG therefore discusses the matter with SIU-MUI and SHUI-KIT. SHUI-HUNG brings PAK-HANG to perform sacrifice. A group of villagers are sending PAK-HANG and a coffin to the graveyard. SHUI-HUNG suddenly leaves for toilet. When they arrive at the graveyard, KAM-CHO takes off the veil and he discovers SIU-MIU instead of PAK-HANG. SHUI-HUNG escorts PAK-HANG to the graveyard and KAM-KUK requests to proceed with the ceremony. The grave is suddenly on fire and CHING-LAN seems to appear in wedding gown. CHING-LAN accuses KAM-KEI for killing her. KAM-KEI is scared and he has a heart attack. CHING-LAN threatens the villagers that they will die like KAM-KEI if they continue to bury women alive and everybody is frightened... KWAI-SZE suddenly feels dizzy and SHUI-FUNG suspects that she is pregnant. KWAI-SZE visits the female villagers. She hopes to unite them so that they can fight against sacrificial burials and injustice...

KAM-KUK requests MING-FUNG to kick KWAI-SZE away by all means. MING-FUNG discovers that KWAI-SZE has made fake evidence of the government commissioner. KAM-KUK asks people to send SHUI-FUNG and KWAI-SZE to jail. SHUI-FUNG suspects that KWAI-SZE is pregnant and he asks SHUI-HUNG to rescue her. KAM-KUK allows KWAI-SZE to stay home and take rest during her pregnancy. PAK-HANG has escaped from the sacrificial burial and she wants to know TUNG-YEUNG's attitude on her. TUNG-YEUNG says that she has been taking good care of MIU-MIU and he is very thankful. PAK-HANG is relieved. KAM-KUK asks MING-FUNG to collect land tax from the villagers earlier so that they can buy tonic for KWAI-SZE. KWAI-SZE doesn't want the villagers to suffer and she decides to leave. CHO-YAT tells KWAI-SZE that SHU-KAN has turned mad since her elder brother has died accidentally before his wedding. KWAI-SZE promises to bring the mother and son together by all means. Eunuch WU asks KAM-KUK to find a courteous and educated woman for him to marry and he sends KAM-KUK a secret formula for curing hemorrhoids...

KAM-KUK suffers from hemorrhoids. When he tries to apply medicine, SHUI-FUNG arrives to apologize to him and persuades him to stop seeing Eunuch WU but KAM-KUK rejects him. MING-FUNG teaches KWAI-SZE to show filial obedience to KAM-KUK and KWAI-SZE understands her. KWAI-SZE apologizes to KAM-KUK and sends him a gift. MING-FUNG discovers that MAN-YEE is leaving home with food and umbrella. She fails to find MAN-YEE but she meets TIN-YAU accidentally. TIN-YAU kisses her by force and MAN-YEE witnesses it. TIN-YAU visits SHUI-FUNG and KWAI-SZE. KAM-KUK asks MING-FUNG to serve him. SHUI-FUNG brings KAM-KUK and TIN-YAU to the cave for inspection. TIN-YAU thinks that they need a furnace to determine the gold content in the cave and they need to spend over ten thousand silver dollars. KAM-KUK suggests to seek financial support from Eunuch WU. Eunuch WU tries to sell a jade pendant from the emperors to KAM-KUK at 500 silver dollars. SHUI-FUNG suspects that the jade pendant is not as valuable as what he described and he decides to investigate the background of Eunuch WU at Fai Woot Valley.

KWAI-SZE, CHOR-YAT and WAI-MING go to give lessons besides the stream. After the lesson, KWAI-SZE and CHOR-YAT hope to restore SIU-SUEN's memory by bringing her to the dry well but SIU-SUEN is very scared. As instructed by KAM-KUK, SHEUNG-YIU decides to marry WAI-MING to Eunuch WU. SHEUNG-SHUN objects the idea and he is dissatisfied that KAM-KUK has forced them to sell the land at a low price. WAI-MING overhears their conversation and she runs to the ancestral hall to scold KAM-KUK. She swears in front of everybody that she will not marry Eunuch WU or Ping On Valley will be cursed. KWAI-SZE asks MING-FUNG to save WAI-MING... After sending MING-FUNG and CHOR-YAT away, Eunuch WU strikes WAI-MING with a whip. When WAI-MING tries to run away, MING-FUNG and CHOR-YAT also arrive to help her. During the chaos, Eunuch WU falls into the water tank accidentally... Based on past experience, SHUI-FUNG believes that Eunuch WU has discovered that others are carrying out investigation on him and he has run away.

KAM-KUK is sad that he is cheated by Eunuch WU. He asks SHEUNG-SHUN to record that SHEUNG-YIU owes him 50 silver dollars of dowry as compensation. SHEUNG-SHUN is very angry but he dares not to speak up. TIN-YAU discovers that there is only pyrite but not gold in the cave but he believes that there is gold nearby. TIN-YAU brings SIU-SUEN to play kite and MING-FUNG follows him. TIN-YAU seizes the chance to declare his love to her. MAN-YEE accuses MING-FUNG for committing adultery and she threatens that she will tell KAM-KUK if she is unhappy. KAM-KUK asks all the women in the family to gather together. He requests them to confess their crime since he has found the person who wanted to poison him... PAK-HANG and WAI-MING speak for CHOR-YAT. KAM-KUK is enraged and he wants to kill the three of them. SHUI-FUNG tries to stop it. KAM-KUK is very upset that he is being scolded by SHUI-FUNG. In order to kill the three women, he would rather cut off the relationship with SHUI-FUNG. KWAI-SZE visits the three women with clothes and food. She promises to rescue them by all means.

CHING-CHING helps SHUI-KIT to darn his clothes. SHUI-KIT takes a sweet potato there. Ms LO-FUN discovers a man there and she misconceives that CHING-CHING is committing adultery and she informs SHUI-HUNG. KWAI-SZE, SHUI-FUNG and the others go to set up some drainage pipes at the stream. They seek support from other women but only SIU-MUI is willing to help them. WAI-MING decides to help CHING-CHING and CHING-CHING reveals that she is not a villager of Ping On Valley. WAI-MING tells other sisters that she will bring CHING-CHING away by disguising themselves as men but SHUI-HUNG chases after them with his people. WAI-MING falls down accidentally and SHUI-HUNG fires a gun but SHUI-KIT is injured by the gunshot accidentally. TUNG-YEUNG says that SHUI-KIT may become disabled. SHUI-HUNG shifts the blame to CHING-CHING and he locks her up. SHEUNG-YIU accuses WAI-MING as well and SHEUNG-SHUN persuades him to marry her to others. SHUI-HUNG decides to arrange marriage for his younger brother so that someone will take care of him. He decides to select the first woman who passes by as his brother's wife and SIU-MUI passes by coincidentally...

SHUI-FUNG teaches SHUI-HUNG to win CHING-CHING's heart with love. SHUI-HUNG declares his love to CHING-CHING by performing magic he learnt from SHUI-FUNG and CHING-CHING is overjoyed. KAM-KUK asks all men in the family to gather at the ancestral hall. He suggests to provide financial support for them to move their family graves. LAP-CHAU says that there are gold mine beneath the graves. During the time, the villagers inform LAP-CHAU that his wife has fallen down when she was taking water. KWAI-SZE scolds LAP-CHAU for asking his wife to take water when she is pregnant. MING-FUNG and the other women gather at the temple. PAK-HANG sighs that Ms LAP-CHAU is very poor. She supports KWAI-SZE for proposing to set up the drainage pipes so that women do not need to take water in the future. WAI-MING decides to punish LAP-CHAU. KAM-KUK arrives with some villagers to dismantle the drainage pipes. KWAI-SZE tries to stop them but LAP-CHAU pushes her into the water. Some blood appears in the water and LAP-CHAU is frightened. SHUI-FUNG discovers that LAP-CHAU has fallen down on the hill. When he tries to take out the weapon from his chest, KO-HING and his family members discover it and they misconceive that SHUI-FUNG has killed LAP-CHAU. SHUI-HUNG and SHUI-FUNG decide to carry out investigation together to find the real murderer.

SHUI-HUNG asks the militia to safeguard the house. In the midnight, a masked person comes out from the vegetable basket. PAK-HANG comes out from the table as well and they knock at each other. SHUI-HUNG tries to search for the murderer with the militia but he is trapped in the inescapable dragnet set up by SHUI-FUNG and TIN-YAU. LAP-CHAU's mother requests them to stop investigation but SHUI-FUNG insists to find the murderer for justice. KWAI-SZE goes to the temple to thank CHOR-YAT, MING-FUNG and the others for rescuing SHUI-FUNG. The seven ladies make a blood oath of allegiance to each other. CHOR-YAT goes to wash clothes at the stream. She learns from Ms KO-HING that SHUI-FU is learning to walk. CHOR-YAT makes a pair of shoes and she asks SHUI-FUNG to bring them to SHUI-FU. SHUI-FUNG brings SHUI-FU to CHOR-YAT. KWAI-SZE opens SIU-SUEN's drawing book and she discovers some sketches of mask. SHUI-FUNG remembers that the masked person who stole the evidences was wearing the same mask and he suspects that the same person has kidnapped SIU-SUEN and killed LAP-CHAU. TIN-YAU discovers that SIU-SUEN is very scared upon seeing jasmine flowers.

SHUI-HUNG discovers that CHING-YUET has committed suicide at the prison and he believes that CHING-YUET is the one who killed LAP-CHAU and kidnapped SIU-SUEN. MIU-MIU goes to the stream to wash winter bamboo shoots but she falls into the water accidentally and HOK-MAN rescues her. HOK-MAN enters the coffin home by mistake and he meets KWAI-SZE. KWAI-SZE invites him to teach at Ping On Valley. SHUI-FUNG accompanies HOK-MAN to promote science at the market and the villagers watch them curiously. When the villagers learn that men and women will study together, they all object the idea. WAI-MING plays trick and the villagers finally agree that the women can study at private school. CHOR-YAT accidentally discovers that MAN-YEE is taking abortion medicine. MAN-YEE warns her to keep the secret or she will harm SHUI-FU. MING-FUNG prays for SIU-SUEN. Auntie SAN tries to scare her by saying that somebody is playing jinx to make SIU-SUEN stupid. MING-FUNG follows MAN-YEE to the wood and she discovers her secret. She performs a search at MAN-YEE's room when nobody is around and she discovers a blood letter from TAK-WAI...

Seven women meet at the temple. CHING-CHING scolds MING-FUNG for reporting MAN-YEE's misbehaviours and MING-FUNG insists that MAN-YEE is the person who harmed SIU-SUEN. The granduncle invites all villagers for a meeting. He complains that HOK-MAN's education style is ridiculous and he proposes to kick him away. TUNG-YEUNG celebrates his daughter MIU-MIU's birthday and he asks her to wear the clothes of his deceased wife KUEN-KUEN. When MIU-MIU is gone, TUNG-YEUNG asks PAK-HANG to wear KUEN-KUEN's clothes as well. He recognizes her as KUEN-KUEN by mistake and he carries her to his bed. WAI-MING is angry with TUNG-YEUNG's behaviours. Together with KWAI-SZE, they beg HOK-MAN to bring MIU-MIU to town so that they could find a sister to keep her. KAM-KUK accuses HOK-MAN for taking the female student away and he should be punished by throwing stones at him. Auntie SAN's granddaughter and a group of primary students arrive to protect HOK-MAN and MIU-MIU. All the women are heartbroken that their children are being attacked by stones and they scold their men angrily. HOK-MAN persuades his students to return home but all the children insist to stay.

SHEUNG-SHUN declares his love to MAN-YEE and he wants to run away with her. CHOR-YAT prays at the temple and she discovers that MING-FUNG has taken 100 silver dollars and she left a note for the borrowed money. CHOR-YAT tells PAK-HANG and PAK-HANG suspects that MING-FUNG has run away with a man. MING-FUNG arrives with SIU-SUEN to meet with TIN-YAU but SHUI-HUNG tries to stop her. TIN-YAU arrives to rescue MING-FUNG. SHEUNG-SHUN believes that SHUI-FUNG has discovered his secret and he tries to duplicate KAM-KUK's key for the ammunition room. A group of women are staying at the Wu's Residence and they insist that they will not return home until the women's commandments are abolished. KAM-KUK requests MING-FUNG to collect debts at Lung Mun Town since he has accepted the cash gift from somebody for marrying SIU-SUEN secretly. SIN-CHI helps to comb SIU-SUEN's hair for the wedding but SHEUNG-SHUN takes SIU-SUEN away. In order to rescue SIU-SUEN, MING-FUNG enters the ancestral hall to fight with SHEUNG-SHUN. When SIU-SUEN tries to escape, she breaks the oil lamp accidentally and the ancestral hall is on fire...

KAM-KUK tries to burn KWAI-SZE and the other five women but he suddenly hears the bungle call. The militia reports that the bandits are arriving to attack them. KAM-KUK asks the villagers to get two cannons but the gunpowder is dampened. SHUI-FUNG and SHUI-HUNG lead the villagers to fight against the bandits. They discover that SHEUNG-SHUN is bringing the bandits PONG TAI-FU and the others to the village and they realize that they are not strong enough to fight with them. SHEUNG-SHUN brings TAI-FU to the ancestral hall. He humiliates and whips KAM-KUK in front of the villagers. SHUI-FUNG tries to take punishments for his father. SHUI-HUNG helps SHUI-FUNG to kick away four bandits. TAI-FU releases WAI-MING and four other women but he keeps KWAI-SZE. TAI-FU appreciates SHUI-FUNG and he asks him to take charge of the gold mining works. SHUI-FUNG and TIN-YAU try to work together. TAI-FU enters the Lu's Residence and SHEUNG-SHUN offers all the family assets to him. TAI-FU meets up with MAN-YEE and it seems that they have known each other for long. MING-FUNG requests to stay so that she could take care of MAN-YEE. SHEUNG-SHUN is upset that TAI-FU has snatched away MAN-YEE.

TAI-FU drinks with other bandits happily. KWAI-SZE performs dancing with other women. HOK-MAN seizes the chance to fly away with MIU-MIU by glider. SHUI-FUNG is seriously injured by TAI-FU's gunshot and TIN-YAU brings him to TUNG-YEUNG for treatment. MAN-YEE tells MING-FUNG that SHEUNG-SHUN is waiting for her at the temple and it is a good time to take revenge. TUNG-YEUNG takes out the bullet from SHUI-FUNG's body but he discovers dark spots on his body and he suspects that SHUI-FUNG is infected with plague. SHUI-HUNG kills SHUI-FUNG on behalf of TAI-FU by gun and he asks others to send the dead body away from Ping On Valley for burning. SIN-CHI and KWAI-SZE are heartbroken. SHEUNG-SHUN is not able to move and MING-FUNG puts explosives besides him. However, SHEUNG-SHUN grasps MING-FUNG so that they would die together. The informer reports that the new government's army will arrive soon. TAI-FU asks all the men to dress like bandits at the entrance of the village to protect them. He asks MAN-YEE for the direction of the private school and MAN-YEE believes that he is running away.
