The models act as clients in need of cocktail dresses, which must be designed with green fabrics—any natural textile like bamboo, hemp.
S05:E03 - Bright Lights/Big City
The designers go on a tour of New York for their next challenge: a look of their choice for a night on the town. They have their first opportunity to shop at Mood.
S05:E04 - Rings of Glory
Designers meet with US Olympian Apolo Ohno, who reveals their challenge is to create a look for the US Olympic women’s team for the opening ceremonies of the Summer Games.
S05:E05 - Welcome to the Jungle
The designers’ next challenge is to create a look for the high-powered professional woman. They’ll pitch an outfit to Brooke Shields, six will move forward with their designs.
S05:E06 - Good Queen Fun
The designers must design an outfit fit for a drag queen. They each have a particular persona and it’s up to them to portray that persona in the look that is created.
S05:E07 - Fashion That Drives You
Challenged to create an outfit from Saturn car parts, designers have just four minutes to riffle through nontraditional materials for parts for their design aesthetic.
S05:E08 - Double O Fashion
Designers create a look for Diane Von Furstenberg’s fall collection. Stakes are high to design a garment that will be sold for American Express card members.
S05:E09 - What's Your Sign?
Remaining designers are challenged to create an avant-garde look inspired by an astrological sign. Paired up with an eliminated designer, teams decide who will be the inspiration.
S05:E10 - Transformation
Recent college graduates are ready to become professionals—however, they need to look the part. Designers must confer with them on the direction of their new look but clash.
S05:E11 - Rock N' Runway
Designers must wield looks that symbolize one of the five musical genres. The designers who have perspective on their specific genre distinguish themselves from their competition.
S05:E12 - When Nature Calls
The designers explore a garden to inspire the look of their gown challenge. Red roses, plum lilies, and a fuchsia Flamenco flower are muses for color palette and fabric texture.
S05:E13 - Finale (Pt. 1)
Designers must create twelve looks for the catwalk. However, their line must include a wedding dress, and only three remaining designers will move on to New York Fashion Week.
S05:E14 - Finale (Pt. 2)
The competition has one challenge: editing out from their line. Designers realize eliminating the wrong look could disrupt the line, causing their dream to remain unfulfilled.
