Paul and Jamie both anxiously await the results of professional projects that could further their respective careers: For him, it's a TV documentary he directed, for her, it's a ludicrous public relations proposal. But when Jamie lands her account and a TV network rejects Paul's film, he struggles to put on a happy face during her raucous celebratory party.

Paul feels like the odd man out when Jamie's exceedingly picky parents come to visit. And while her handy dad shows mechanically challenged Paul how to remove a hair clog from the plumbing, Jamie shudders every time her parents question her choices.

Jamie persuades Paul to face an old film school rival, Howie, who blames Paul for derailing his film career and forcing him to become a subway token-taker. After an unpleasant reunion at the subway station, Howie stomps outs, leaving a guilt-ridden Paul and Jamie to cover for him on the job.

Paul and Jamie hire a Russian maid to clean their cluttered apartment, but Paul's nagging guilt compels him to get in the way -- and he finds himself in trouble when she misinterprets his kindness as flirtation.

A reluctant Paul finally accepts Jamie's dare to give up the rent-controlled lease to his old bachelor apartment and sever all connections to the past. But Jamie doesn't know about Paul's edgy tenant -- a strange gawky man named Kramer.

Paul and Jamie get on the wrong track en route to a holiday disaster when they cram aboard a train to visit her parents for their first Thanksgiving together. Their good cheer is derailed when their crowded car is also boarded by their feuding neighbors, the Devanows, neurotic Lisa and freeloading Selby.

When Jamie lands a huge account to promote New York tourism, she eagerly hires Paul to direct the filming of a TV commercial. But when the tourism director disagrees with Paul's artistic vision for the spot, Jamie is caught in the middle and must choose between a stubborn client and her equally immovable husband.

Paul and Jamie miss out on a friend's important Valentine's Day party when they accidentally lock themselves in their bathroom. They vainly try ramming the door, dropping S.O.S. notes out the window and yelling for their lazy dog, but they finally resign themselves to their fate -- and discover more about each other than either cared to know.
S01:E15 - The Wedding Affair
Paul and Jamie are overdressed and overstressed when they attend a friend's wedding, where Paul blurts out an embarrassing revelation about the blushing bride. But later, a contrite Jamie confesses some secrets of her own -- intimate details Paul wishes he had never heard.
S01:E16 - Weekend Getaway
During a long weekend, stressed-out Paul and workaholic Jamie escape the city and try to unwind in a rustic country inn, but the clean air, beautiful scenery and quiet nights nearly drive the New Yorkers stir crazy. Their condition is only made worse by the knowledge that neurotic Lisa is minding their apartment.
S01:E17 - Swept Away
A protective Jamie shares her doubts with Paul when her neurotic sister Lisa gleefully decides to move in with her too-perfect English boyfriend after a week of courtship. And Jamie's fears are not calmed when she learns that Bluebeard's three previous wives all met bizarre and untimely ends.
S01:E18 - The Billionaire
Paul is flattered when an eccentric billionaire offers him a ton of money to produce a documentary film about his life. Assisted by Steven, his keenly observant film editor, Paul, traipses after his loony subject and amasses miles of film -- but his biggest creative challenge is how to evict his chummy client when he moves in with him and Jamie.
S01:E19 - The Man Who Said Hello
Paul is mortified when his star struck father calls out to talk show host Regis Philbin across a crowded theater, but his embarrassment mushrooms when an amused Regis asks the chatty old man to appear on his talk show. And when shy Paul refuses to join his pop and Jamie on camera, his cousin Ira fills in and pretends to be Paul -- all of which confuses poor Regis.
S01:E20 - The Spy Girl Who Loved Me
Paul nearly drools with excitement when Jamie invites him to dinner with her client Diane Caldwell (Barbara Feldon), a sexy TV spy/heroine from the 1960s who inspired his adolescent fantasies. But he gets jealous when his equally bewitched cousin Ira horns in and disappears into the night with the slinky spy lady.
