Luke Rutherford learns that his destiny is to fight against supernatural entities.

Children start to go missing-- including Ruby's younger brother-- so Luke has to put his skills to the test. Father Simeon confirms to Galvin that the half lives are involved in the abductions. Rescuing the children involves battling a 2000-year-old demon called Gilgamel.

Galvin lets his emotions get the better of him when his wife's murderer, Mr Tibbs, arrives in town. Hell-bent on revenge and with no regard for his own safety, Galvin arms himself to the teeth and embarks on what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. The problem is, his thirst for vengeance leads him straight into rat-man's trap, putting more than his own life at risk.

A vampire, Quincey, is on the scene and causing havoc around London with his gang. Galvin and Luke must stop him; however, Luke discovers that Mina is a vampire, and that Quincey is in fact her own son.

When Mina and Galvin start to investigate a strange murder, they fear for Luke's safety. They are worried Luke's love interest may be a low life disguised as a female to trick its prey and Mina starts having visions of a winged beast.

Luke becomes haunted by dreams about the car crash that killed his father and Galvin's connection to it. A visit to a psychic convinces him his godfather is not the man he seems and, with Gladiolus Thrip back on the scene and showing an unhealthy interest in Luke's past, the vampire-fighting duo look set to be torn apart.
