Willoughby departs for London, leaving Marianne bewildered and desolate.

Marianne's is heartbroken by Willoughby's rejection. Elinor is to meet Edward's mother.

The Dashwoods end their unhappy stay in London. Elinor is now as desolate as Marianne.

Marianne is at last out of danger. Elinor has received a visit from a penitent Willoughby.
