Guard officer Shervinsky continues to aggressively care for Elena Vasilyevna. He comes to the Turbins and declares to her husband that ran away will never return. Gangsters with impunity rob the peaceful population of Kiev. Valentin resorts to the Turbins. His house was robbed, everything was turned upside down. Myshlaevsky advises Valentine and his wife not to complain to anyone. Alexey Turbin has a fever, dying of typhus, with no hope for recovery.
