Today in the Repair Shop, Jay Blades and the team bring three treasured family heirlooms, and the memories they hold, back to life. A beautiful, carved walnut piano stool arrives for the attention of Furniture Restorer Will Kirk. Proud owner Mary treasures the stool, as it belonged to a dear friend. It holds many memories of the lady who took a teenage Mary under her wing, when she began working for her in her dress shop. The stool dramatically lost a leg recently, much to Mary's dismay. Will uses all his experience and passion for carving to create a replacement and returns the cherished piece to an over whelmed Mary.Horologist Steve Fletcher's knowledge of dials, numbers and needles is called upon to resurrect a very unusual object that's been broken for over 30 years. Owner Simon arrives at the barn with a defunct speedometer from his 1920s vintage car. An engineer himself, he has worked on every element of his beloved car but getting the speedometer to work has evaded him. This is a first for Steve and something of a challenge. There's nothing else for it but dismantle the entire unit and do some major figuring out.And basketry specialist Sarah Hatton undertakes the repair of a wicker baby crib that has been at the heart of a family for generations. However it has fallen into disrepair and sat in the attic gathering dust for decades. Custodians Adam and Sylvia are now expecting a much wished for baby and would love to continue the family tradition of using the cot.
