Tonight is the final episode of Open House. Shelley is in HQ and is joined by Neale, Shaynna and Darren once again. Kyal and Kara are special guests tonight. They head to Keriaville on the NSW coast to help a family sell their home. Michael and Mary and their two children have lived here for 18 years. Their children have grown up and moved out of home and Michael and Mary are moving into a smaller apartment. The house has three bedrooms and is valued at $650,000, it’s a popular area for young families. The house has been very special for the family. The entrance and front living room are stuck in the 1950s and they’re the first rooms that buyers see. Mary says the only thing she wants in the room is a new fly screen. Mary’s nervous about changes as the house is very sentimental to her and Michael. Kyal wants to connect the rooms together by taking out a wall. Kyal and Kara have $10,000 thanks to AMP and just one day to get the work done. They get to work ripping out carpet and ripping down a wall. They’re also going to re-vamp the tired old fireplace. They build a timber frame but surround it with a non combustible sheeting. Kara and Mary head out to meet the real estate agent. Scotty rescues another Knucklehead. This time its Sabrina, who’s been dobbed in by her best mate Tessa, they’ve been best friends ever since. Sabrina is only in her 20s and has her own home but she’s not so good at painting! She’s trying to achieve the shabby chic look by painting. Scotty congratulates Sabrina for having a good attempt at painting but Scotty is keen to give a helping hand. First step is sanding off all the old paint, using a palm sander. Then they wipe the surfaces down using a tack cloth. Next step is to tape up and then its time to apply the stain and then a sealer. Back in Keiraville the makeover is going well but the team needs to be finished by 5pm because there is an open for inspection the next morning. Kyal and Kara frame their own mirror, bring in new sofas, lamps and a rug and the house looks amazing. Real estate agent Jenny can’t believe the transformation. She thinks they’ve added hopefully around $50,000. Design Doctor visits a couple who's DIY kitchen is falling apart. Mel and Michael wanted to save on costs so Michael installed a flat pack kitchen with some mates. The tap doesn’t work and the cupboards don’t really open. Darren decides to take the old kitchen out and start again with three days to do the job in. The plumbing, layout and cook top are staying in the same spot. Darren takes the couple to The Good Guys to choose their surfaces. They also choose another oven and cooktop and Darren gets to work in the house while the couple stay away with their two young children. When they get back the kitchen is complete and Darren has chosen patterned tiles and timber look laminate bench tops. Everyone’s happy with the kitchen including Darren! Its auction day in Keiraville and the 1950’s house is going under the hammer. The auction is slow to start but it starts at $600,000 and quickly climbs to $650,000 which is the pre renovation value. The auction quickly escalates to $800,000, $100,000 over the reserve. The house sells for $811,000. Mary and Michael are so happy! They can’t believe the end result and are so thankful to everyone everyone’s efforts.
