Chicago's Major Crimes Unit, led by no-nonsense Lt. Mike Torello, suspects upstart mobster Ray Luca may be the mastermind behind a string of robberies. Meanwhile, Torello deals with the idealistic meddling of public defender David Abrams.

While a psychotic killer occupies the MCU's attention, Luca uses the situation to his advantage by pulling off some major heists.

When a home invasion leads to murder and sends MCU on the war path, boss Phil Bartoli orders Ray Luca to deal with the matter personally.

Luca gives in to his inner demons after the case against him is dropped for lack of evidence, but his careless behavior gives Torello an opening.
