Dr. F. Bruce Russell, a retired physician found a cave with giant mummified remains and artifacts from a lost civilization. Fifteen years earlier a miner broke through a mine shaft and into a network of caverns, which led to the remains of an ancient people. Before that, one of the men who worked on the wagons hauling borax stumbled upon a cavern with remnants of a forgotten and lost race.

In 1849 a group of optimistic and determined pioneers set out from the settlement of Salt Lake, Utah to head to California. Most were gold seekers, some Mormon Missionaries and others simply looking for a better life, all seemed impatient. When some of them took a shortcut it took them into the “jaws of hell” as was predicted, leading them directly into the place they named “Death Valley.”
