Former policeman Matthew Bunting starts work as the only male midwife at Easthill Park Hospital's maternity unit.

Matthew gets caught up in a row between expectant father Richard and Melanie, his wife. He then discovers that Richard is also visiting Alice, his pregnant bit on the side.

Matthew is unhappy that the inept Ian is now a hospital security guard. Things get worse when pregnant prisoner Agnes Fraser is admitted.

Reality TV star Comfort Evans books into the ward, requesting anonymity, but Tash leaks her presence on Facebook and photographers besiege the hospital.

Following a theft from the drug cabinet, the police are called. One of the officers is Matthew's former girlfriend, whom he believes is pregnant by him.
