S03:E01 - Episode 1
A baby Wildebeest gets a second chance at life after being rescued from beneath its dead mothers body. Things get really dangerous during Waterbuck capture when one of our team members is run over by an angry bull. Ranger Jason Friends afternoon game drive is rudely interrupted when he gets charged by a herd of angry elephants. Its turning into a busy day for our Vet Johan; hes being joined by a group of Australian Vet Students that are visiting Shamwari to learn what life as a wildlife Vet is all about, and theyre thrown right into the deep end. The students must head out to dart a White Rhino. During this episode we solve the mystery of our elephant herds strange behaviour and capture some amazing footage a baby elephant that has just been born and hasnt even stood up yet! we Ranger Jason tries to solve the death of a very smelly warthog by using some Wildlife CSI tactics, and finally we end off with the arrival of two extremely rare patients White Lion Cubs.
S03:E02 - Episode 2
Its an early start for Wildlife Veterenarian Doctor Johan Joubert as he heads out to track an orphaned baby hippo, but hes worried that the lions might get to it first. Things start to get really interesting when Ranger Jason finds a giraffe eating a bone and discovers Sindile, our resident female leopard, mating with one of Shamwaris elusive males. Our Australian Vet Students get more than they bargained for when they head out to capture the worlds largest land mammal an Elephant Bull. Its a busy day at the Animal Hospital when a smelly meerkat is given a much needed bath and we meet our newest arrivals a litter of 6 jackal puppies! Ranger Andrew Kearney removes a 2 meter long snake from the house thats not something you see everyday! Out on the reserve we capture some incredible footage of our lion pride eating a hippo carcass and back at the Animal Hospital Vet Nurse Zane Olivier bottle feeds two very hungry and very rare White Lion Cubs.
S03:E03 - Episode 3
The Game Capture Team gets the wind knocked out of their sails when strong winds distrupt their blesbok capture things get really crazy! We take Ben, our orphaned baby wildebeest, outside for a bit of exercise so that hes fit enough to go back to the wild. Our Australian Vet Students lend a helping hand when Johan has to dart the endangered Cape Mountain Zebra to give it a much needed manicure after its hoof grew out too long. Its a jackal feeding frenzy at the Animal Hospital when our jackal puppies are given their lunchtime milk table manners are definitely not their strong point! After weeks without rain two buffalo calves are suffering from a terrible skin disease called mange Johan brings them in to meet their new foster mom Cardigan, a Jersey Cow! Out on the reserve Ranger Jason goes out on foot to try to keep up with the worlds fastest land mammal the cheetah. S03:E04 - Episode 4
Its moving day for 3 hippo whose river territories have dried up from drought. We take Monty the meerkat for his first walk outside a far better place than than the city apartment he came from. Its turning into a busy day for the Game Capture team as they bring in a bad-tempered black rhino that has been injured in a fight with another male. Ranger Jason takes a closer look the amazing Golden Orb Web Spider that ends up catching a grasshopper right in front of him! Vet Murray needs to dart the second fastest antelope in the world, the Red Hartebeest; and the only way to keep up with it is in a chopper. An amazing friendship has formed at the Animal Hospital Buffy the rescued Buffalo calf has finally started suckling from Cardigan, the foster Jersy Cow. Our Aussie Vet Students get a lesson of the cold-blooded kind when they get up close and personal to some slippery snakes. We capture our rarest footage ever black rhino mating out in the open! S03:E05 - Episode 5
Wildlife Veteranarian Murray Stokoe takes a rhino for a walk one of the first times Shamwari has captured rhino using this method. We rescue an injured Burchells Zebra foal and bring her back to the Animal Hospital to meet Debra, our orphaned baby Cape Mountain Zebra. Out on the main reserve a group of visitors get more than they bargained for when an angry elephant bull tries to tip their vehicle. Johan gives our Aussie Vet Students some tips on target practice while Ranger Jason has a front row seat watching a family of elephants doing their favourite thing - swimming. The Animal Hospital is buzzing with activity as we give a much needed bath to our 6 Jackal Pups and build a new enclosure for our two orphaned White Lion Cubs finally they can breathe fresh air again!
S03:E06 - Episode 6
Ostrichs start flying during game capture when they double back on the team and start clearing the sail system. Bugsy, a tiny little bat-eared fox pup checks in at the animal hospital and gets his first meal in days. Ranger Jason goes in on foot with an animal that is responsible for the highest number of deaths in Africa the hippo. Our Aussie Vet students get charged at by an angry black rhino and live to tell the tale, while Vet Murray checks up on a an orphan with a whole lot of attitude Wilbur the baby Warthog. Theres never a dull day at the animal hospital; Johan and Zane are giving our white lion cubs a new cuddle buddy a fluffy white lion pillow that they can snuggle with at night. As the sun sets for the day our Anti-Poaching Unit heads out on night patrol, making sure Shamwaris precious rhino are all accounted for. Sadly, a neighbouring reserve is not as lucky, and the wildlife team heads out to rescue a baby rhino whos mother had been killed by poachers.
S03:E07 - Episode 7
Clint, our orphaned baby rhino is trying his best NOT to make new friends giving Cardigan the Jersey Cow, Buffy the Buffalo Calf & Zoe the Zebra a real run for their money while chasing them around his enclosure! Shamwaris favourite leopardess, Sindile has some serious surgery to get a new radio transmitter fitted and we get some amazing footage of her approaching John OBrien while hes on foot their bond is unlike any thing seen before! It turns out to be a really sad day for our elephant herd as they mourn the loss of one of their youngsters after it got stuck in a mudpool and drowned. The white lion cubs get a manicure theyre growing up fast and their sharp claws are making it difficult for Zane to feed them. Ranger Jason stumbles across a leopard tortoise in the middle of the road Africa is not just made up of the Big 5 - its also the little animals that make it truly amazing! S03:E08 - Episode 8
The rains have arrived and Spring has Sprung, with carpets of yellow and purple flowers opening all across the reserve Shamwari has been transformed into a garden of eden. But with the flowers come a few problems Bees! Bees! Bees! Beehives have formed in many of the houses in the reserve and weve got get our unwelcome visitors out before they sting someone! An enormous thundertorms hits Shamwari, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake a dead giraffe that Johan believes was struck by lightning. Caught on camera: Unbelievable footage of a Leopard attacking a Cheetah Ranger Pascale relives the most traumatic animal sighting shes experienced at Shamwari. Our white lion cubs get a much-needed bath, which leaves us just as wet as they are, and as the sun sets for the evening Ranger Jason follows up on the dead giraffe that was struck by lightning the night before and is visited by some very hungry hyena theyll be feeding on the carcass for weeks!
S03:E09 - Episode 9
Elephant capture becomes a little more action-packed than Johan had bargained for when one of the bulls go down in a nearby Quarry theres no way the trucks can get to it so it needs to be dragged out with a crane. Wilbur the baby warthog finally gets a new friend Wendy, another orphaned warthog piglet that was brought to the Animals Hospital they make the perfect pair! Vet Murray gives some Brazilian Vet Students the experience of a lifetime when they help him dart and decollar one of Shamwaris male cheetahs, while back at the Animal Hospital Zane has invented an ingeious way of feeding our White Lion Cubs with minimal human contact shes feeding them through a small hole in the fence. We were starting to run out of ideas for friends for our baby rhino Clint he didnt take kindly to his introduction to Linky the Donkey chasing her all over the enclosure. Our last hope was Harry the sheep, and just like with Themba the Baby Elephant, a sheep saved the day once again!
S03:E10 - Episode 10
White Rhino Capture gets REALLY interesting when a pride of lion interfere with the rhino that we want to dart as per usual, Wild Animals never play by the rules. Back at the Animal Hospital a very special bird is given a second chance at life A Marshall Eagle that was thought to be killing livestock was caught by a farmer and sent to us to take car off until the lambing season was over. Finally this impressive bird can fly freely once again. Its turning out to be a busy day for releases as Murray send Zoe the Zebra back to the wild and Johan takes Wilbur the Warthog and one of our older caracals back to the bush as well. Ranger Jason digs deep to find out how the tiny creatures live he explores a termite mound and eats one as well! Shamwaris lion population has grown too big, so Johan needs to dart four subadult males to send to another game reserve, but with the rest of the pride nearby its not going to be easy. Tragedy strikes the Animal Hospital when Clint, our orphaned baby rhino gets very very sick
S03:E11 - Episode 11
The game capture team meets their match with an angry oryx, one of the fittest animals in the world. They have to resort to using huge metal basj boards to push it into the truck, and avoid getting gored by its super sharp horns. The tallest baby in the world checks in to the animal hospital when Vet Murray arrives late at night with Tweega, an orphaned baby giraffe form another reserve. Ranger Jason digs up some amazing artifacts from a springhares burrow dating back over a hundred years, when settlers traversed the land. Shamwaris tiniest patient ever is checking in to the Animal Hospital an Elephant Shrew its going to be a struggle to get such a small animal to feed. Its a bittersweet goodbye for us as we take our white lion cubs back to Sanbona to meet their mother for the first time since they were rescued from her almost 8 months ago they will first meet through a fence, but this is one step closer to going back to the wild. The success of the White Lion Breeding Project now rests on them alone. In
S03:E12 - Episode 12
Our naughtiest elephant bull gets a taste of his own medicine when Johan and John try to dart him with a hormone that will calm him down. But darting an angry elephant bull is never easy. Its a jackal feeding frenzy at the Animal Hospital as our fully grown jackal puppies go crazy over meat scraps. Ranger Jason finds an amazing little bug a flightless dung beetle that was almost extinct a few decades a go. Monty the meerkat is getting up to all sorts of mischief back at the Animal Hospital. Hes become a professional at breaking and entering; his daily rituals include taunting the office dogs and caracals and then popping in to see Wilbur and Wendy the warthog piglets to make sure they wake up form their afternoon siesta its all in a days work for our naughty meerkat! Johan treats a buffalo sized abscyss and makes a run for it when it wakes up a little sooner than expected. S03:E13 - Episode 13
Its all about saving the rhino in this episode when the war against poaching is brought right to our doorstep: A mother and young calf are butchered for their horns, leaving the little one orphaned and in excruciating pain Johan and his team do everything in their power to save the little one, but sadly his wounds were too extensive and the difficult decision was made to put him down, another rhino lost for a mystical medicine that doesnt even work. Shamwaris Anti-Poaching Unit brings in the troops with aerial patrols of Shamwari, road bloacks night and day and specialist foot patrol units monitoring all the fencelines. With more than one rhino being poached every day in South Africa, Shamwari isnt cutting any corners. But to make matters even more complicated, Johan falls and breaks his ankle while walking in the bush! But at such a critical time the work has to carry on when Johan gets an emergency call head out to rescue another rhino calf that has got itself stuck in a mudpool and could drown at any minu
