A group of parents and teenagers is unsettled by the arrival of Nat Manning, an audacious minor celebrity who's returned home to reconnect with the teenage son she had with rising politician Tim Williams. As the savvy Nat finds the measure of everyone around her, the teenagers' world is shaken when one of them discovers a body in parkland.

When Vince's best friend Gabriel returns to stay, his long-standing attraction to Vince's wife Ally is recognized by all, except her. The struggle for Max between Nat and Christine has started. The body that Max uncovered evolves into a peer group secret, with Romeo leading the charge to break into the dead man's house.

Vince stuns Gabriel when he invites his mistress Em on their skiing trip, but Vince's cocky assurance unravels when Em is injured and he must call on Gabriel to cover for him. Nat drags Ally out of the house for a boozy night. Influenced by Nat's mojo, Ally behaves out of character. In the battle for Charlotte's affection, Romeo inches ahead of Max.

Ally questions Em's presence on the ski trip and Vince shrewdly lies, convincing her that Em is actually Gabriel's girlfriend. When a party at the dead man's house is interrupted by the police, Max panics and calls Nat, building Christine's insecurities over Nat's growing presence in his life.

Tim's loyalty is tested when he is tapped to become health minister, but only if he deposes his mentor Pat Mahady. The parents hold a crisis meeting, in shock over their kids' involvement with the dead body. Vince buys political leverage with Tim by blackmailing Dougherty to prevent the story breaking. Max unravels when Charlotte loses her virginity to Romeo.

Vince is seized with jealousy when Ally confesses she kissed a guy on her night out with Nat. The teenagers are all sent to parent-child counselling sessions, with unexpected results. Tim is distraught when his political mentor, Pat Mahady, commits suicide.

In shock after Mahady's suicide, Tim goes out for a boozy, flirty night with Nat, devastating Christine. When Gigi tells Ally that Gabriel and Em's relationship was a lie, Ally confronts Gabriel, and he admits that he has always loved her. Vince seduces a powerful woman who has a daughter at Gigi's school.

Confronted with a hospital crisis, Gabriel contacts Tim, who plays political hardball to secure more emergency funding. Ally is devastated when she uncovers Em and Vince's affair. She exposes Vince and takes refuge in a hotel with Nat. Charlotte, now Max's girlfriend, moves in with Tim and Christine.

Tim is politically compromised when details of Vince's shady dealings come to light. With his marriage on the line, Vince struggles to manage his family. Nat finally elicits Tim's confession that he's still attracted to her. As the tension mounts between Max, Charlotte and Romeo, all the teenagers are involved in a nasty car accident.

The press seizes on Max's involvement in the car accident, compromising Tim. Nat finds herself in a position to make some money from the growing controversy. When Gabriel declares his intentions to win Ally, Vince is galvanized into action. In the wake of the accident, all of Christine's mounting anger is unleashed. As pressure mounts, the landscape is irrevocably transformed by an unexpected turn of events.
