The Tarpan roamed in wild herds across Europe for millennia, yet the breed became extinct in the 19th century. Today the careful work of international teams is bringing a small herd of genetically bred, modern Tarpan to the remote mountains of eastern Europe. Here the horse faces a whole new challenge, struggling to become wild again.
