Gru Is Back on Dad Duty When Despicable Me 2 Hits Tubi

The former supervillain has three daughters, a new partner, and a world-saving assignment he definitely did not apply for. The animated family movie starts streaming on Tubi October 1.

Remind Me

Retiring from supervillainy sounds relaxing until you remember Gru lives with three children and an irresponsible number of Minions.

Stealing the moon is behind him. Fatherhood is very much not. Starting October 1 on Tubi, Despicable Me 2 catches up with Gru as he's settled into life with Margo, Edith, and Agnes, traded elaborate criminal schemes for slightly more legitimate pursuits, and discovered that being a dad comes with problems no freeze ray can solve. Then the Anti-Villain League appears with an offer: somebody is planning something dangerous, and apparently a former bad guy is exactly who you hire to find another one.

Saving the world may be familiar territory. Doing it while navigating parenting, unexpected chemistry, and Agnes taking a very active interest in his love life is another assignment entirely.

The sequel gets to have fun with a Gru who has already changed. He's still grumpy. The accent remains committed. Gadgets are still readily available. But now his evil lair has children running through it, his priorities have shifted, and the former supervillain who once wanted the world to fear him has become deeply invested in whether his daughters are okay. Meanwhile, the Minions remain Minions. Some forces cannot be rehabilitated. For more movie-night options where the whole household can join the chaos, Tubi's Family Movies collection has the next watch covered.

The Cast

Steve Carell

Fatherhood has softened Gru without magically turning him cheerful, and Carell keeps that contradiction at the center of the character. The exaggerated accent and irritated delivery still make Gru unmistakably Gru, but Carell gives his protectiveness toward Margo, Edith, and Agnes enough sincerity to make the former villain's domestic life feel like genuine growth rather than a temporary detour between schemes.

Kristen Wiig

Lucy enters Gru's carefully controlled world with approximately enough enthusiasm for both of them. Wiig gives the Anti-Villain League agent a bright, unpredictable energy that makes her a natural comedic counterweight to Gru's permanent suspicion, while letting the character's competence underneath all that cheer explain why the two gradually make such an effective team.

Benjamin Bratt

Charm comes very easily to Eduardo, which is precisely why Gru finds the exuberant restaurant owner so suspicious. Bratt leans into the character's enormous personality and theatrical confidence, making every interaction feel just heightened enough to keep Gru, and the audience, wondering whether there's something underneath all that hospitality.

Miranda Cosgrove

Growing up has given Cosgrove's Margo concerns that Gru's parenting manual was absolutely not prepared to address. Cosgrove brings the eldest daughter a little more independence as her first crush enters the picture, while keeping the warmth and responsibility that make Margo the grounded older sister among the three girls.

“Clear the couch. This mission comes with Minions.”
