Imagine being a teenager and having the football world collectively decide you're next. The Identity Theft of Mitch Mustain revisits what happens when college-football recruiting hype gets so enormous that everyone seems to know exactly what your career is supposed to become before you've even taken a college snap. Mustain enters the conversation alongside future stars like Tim Tebow and Matthew Stafford, heads to Arkansas and eventually USC, and then discovers that the neat little superstar trajectory everyone predicted isn't nearly so neat.
If you're the football fan who knows which five-star quarterback committed where before breakfast, this college football documentary is fascinating context for the recruiting machine we have now. 4th and Forever: DeSoto highlights the DeSoto Eagles through a season filled with championship expectations, local rivalries, and the particular pressure that comes with playing football somewhere the sport is practically part of the infrastructure. Every matchup brings another test, but games against programs like Duncanville and Cedar Hill carry the kind of history that makes “just another Friday night” an adorable suggestion.
