The Red Flags Aren't Just in the Romance Novel in Bite Size Terror's Book Club
One scandalous romance novel has a suburban reading circle completely hooked. Episode 8 of Tubi's horror anthology makes the next chapter worth questioning.
Patrick Wilson and Ty Simpkins return for another terrifying trip into The Further when the supernatural horror sequel arrives on Tubi November 4.
Remind MeCollege is supposed to be a fresh start. New friends, new classes, questionable dining hall food, and finally a little independence from your parents. A reunion with the demons that haunted your childhood? Definitely not part of the welcome package.
Arriving on Tubi November 4, Insidious: The Red Door (2023) brings Josh Lambert and his now college-aged son Dalton back into the supernatural nightmare that made their family a horror favorite. Their memories of The Further may have been buried, but the darkness waiting beyond that familiar red door has never been particularly respectful of boundaries. This time, the terror is tangled with a fractured father-son relationship, making the journey into the unknown as personal as it is paranormal.
Patrick Wilson makes his feature directorial debut with the fifth installment of the Insidious franchise, returning to the world of astral projection, sinister spirits, and one very recognizable red-faced demon. For longtime fans, it's an opportunity to revisit the Lambert family's story more than a decade after their first haunting. Newcomers, meanwhile, get a supernatural mystery where the danger isn't limited to what's lurking in The Further. The Lambert family's strained relationships might be just as difficult to confront.
The Lambert family may be trying to close the door on their nightmares, but Terror on Tubi has no shortage of supernatural horrors waiting on the other side. Some doors are better left unopened. This franchise has never been good at following that advice.
The little boy whose supernatural abilities helped launch the original Insidious nightmare is all grown up, and college isn't exactly giving him the independence he expected. Simpkins returns as a guarded, frustrated Dalton, whose artwork begins uncovering disturbing memories from a childhood he can barely remember. His performance captures the tension between wanting answers and fearing what those answers might reveal.
Josh has already survived enough supernatural encounters to justify never entering another suspiciously dark room again. Unfortunately, The Further didn’t get the memo. Wilson returns with a more emotionally burdened performance, portraying a man struggling to reconnect with his son while confronting memories he can't fully explain. Josh's confusion and growing fear make him feel less like someone confronting a brand-new threat and more like someone realizing an old nightmare has been waiting patiently for him.
After everything the Lambert family has endured, Renai has more than earned the right to a peaceful life. Byrne brings a grounded emotional presence to Josh's former wife and Dalton's mother, who understands the family's supernatural history better than the two men struggling to remember it. Her protective steadiness reflects the lasting consequences of their past, even as everyone attempts to move forward.
“You buried the past. Something left the door open.”
