Kong: Skull Island Makes a Strong Case for Leaving the Wildlife Alone

The expedition came looking for answers. Kong would prefer they mind their business. Stream the blockbuster adventure free on Tubi November 20.

There are bad vacation destinations, and then there's an island where the local wildlife could swallow your entire helicopter. No five-star resorts, no complimentary breakfast, and absolutely no guarantee you'll make it home. Welcome to Skull Island. The locals are enormous, and the hospitality could use serious work.

Arriving on Tubi November 20, Kong: Skull Island takes audiences deep into uncharted territory, where a scientific expedition discovers that humanity isn't exactly at the top of the food chain. Set in 1973, the adventure follows a team of soldiers, scientists, and explorers sent to investigate a mysterious island in the Pacific. Their mission takes a disastrous turn when they encounter Kong, a towering creature whose presence raises far more questions than the expedition was prepared to answer.

The island's prehistoric creatures are terrifying enough, but the expedition's biggest problem might be its own inability to agree on what comes next. Scientists want answers, soldiers are trained to confront threats, and the people trying to survive are caught somewhere in the middle. Kong complicates those priorities, especially when the visitors begin realizing that the enormous ape might not be the island's greatest danger. Bringing military firepower to an island ruled by monsters might sound reassuring, but nobody thought to ask whether the monsters would be impressed.

Monster-movie fans also have another reason to celebrate this November. Godzilla Minus Zero arrives in North American theaters November 6, putting one of cinema's biggest creatures back in the spotlight. Kong has his own monstrous legacy to uphold, and Skull Island makes a pretty convincing case that the King of the Apes deserves just as much attention. The film's massive action sequences, extraordinary creatures, and unlikely alliances make it a natural fit alongside the larger-than-life adventures in Tubi's Sci-Fi & Fantasy collection.

Kong might be king of the island, but the humans are about to learn that their survival isn't exactly his top priority.

The Cast

Tom Hiddleston as James Conrad

Surviving an island full of prehistoric nightmares requires someone who knows their way around dangerous territory. Hiddleston brings a cool-headed determination to Conrad, a former British Special Air Service captain hired to guide the expedition. His experience makes him a steady presence when the mission goes wrong, although even his survival skills have limits when the opposition is several stories tall.

Samuel L. Jackson as Lieutenant Colonel Preston Packard

Packard is a military commander who doesn't appreciate losing control of a situation, especially when the thing challenging his authority is a giant ape. Jackson gives the battle-hardened officer an intimidating intensity, portraying a man whose sense of duty becomes entangled with his personal determination to confront Kong. His refusal to back down creates a dangerous divide among the survivors, particularly when his military instincts clash with the group's need to escape.

Brie Larson as Mason Weaver

Mason Weaver didn't travel to Skull Island expecting a relaxing tropical getaway. She's an antiwar photojournalist determined to document the expedition, and Larson gives her a perceptive, independent personality that sets her apart from the military figures surrounding her. While others see Kong as an immediate threat, Weaver is willing to question whether the enormous creature deserves the blame for everything happening on the island. Her perspective adds an intriguing dimension to a story where first impressions can be dangerously misleading.

John C. Reilly as Hank Marlow

Imagine being stranded on a monster-infested island for nearly three decades, only to discover that your potential rescuers have arrived with absolutely no understanding of the local ecosystem. Reilly brings humor and heart to Marlow, a World War II pilot who has spent years learning how to survive Skull Island's many dangers. His eccentric personality makes him an entertaining addition to the group, but beneath the jokes is someone whose hard-earned knowledge could mean the difference between survival and becoming another island cautionary tale.
