The Red Flags Aren't Just in the Romance Novel in Bite Size Terror's Book Club
One scandalous romance novel has a suburban reading circle completely hooked. Episode 8 of Tubi's horror anthology makes the next chapter worth questioning.
George MacKay, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, and Mia Goth enter a house full of secrets when the psychological horror movie Marrowbone arrives on Tubi October 28.
Remind MeThere are houses where the floorboards creak because they're old. And there are houses where maybe we stop asking.
Marrowbone arrives on Tubi October 28 with four siblings trying very hard to keep their family together while an enormous old house makes that job increasingly unsettling. After fleeing England with their mother to escape a violent father, Jack, Billy, Jane, and Sam begin a new life at her childhood home in rural America. When she dies, the siblings keep her death secret so they won't be separated, leaving eldest brother Jack responsible for protecting a family the outside world can't know is living alone.
As plans go, this one already has enough structural issues before something starts moving upstairs. The siblings cover mirrors, hear unexplained noises, and live under rules designed to keep both the authorities and whatever may be inside Marrowbone away from them. We recently spent a weekend exploring haunted house movies that make staying home feel risky, and Marrowbone adds an especially inconvenient wrinkle: asking the outside world for help could expose the very secret holding the siblings together.
Writer-director Sergio G. Sánchez builds the 2017 psychological horror movie around that uncertainty. Marrowbone could be sheltering the siblings from what waits outside or trapping them with something much closer. Figuring out which danger deserves more attention is part of the mystery. The doors don't open until October 28, leaving Terror on Tubi to keep spooky season appropriately unsettling in the meantime.
We're staying spoiler-free. The mirrors, however, remain suspicious.
Being the oldest sibling has rarely come with a worse benefits package. George MacKay gives Jack the exhausting responsibility of holding his family together while pretending everything is more normal than it actually is. MacKay balances older-brother tenderness with a constant undercurrent of fear Jack can't safely show, grounding the character even as everything around him becomes less reliable.
Allie represents something dangerously appealing to a family sealed inside its own secrets: normal life. Anya Taylor-Joy plays that contrast with an easy warmth while letting Allie's curiosity sharpen as the circumstances surrounding Jack become harder to ignore. Her grounded performance gives the movie somewhere to breathe outside the house without making Allie feel disconnected from the mystery unfolding inside it.
Mia Goth brings Jane a quieter emotional sensitivity that preserves the feeling of a family underneath all the fear. Small reactions, watchful glances, and attempts at reassurance let Goth communicate Jane's attentiveness without mistaking gentleness for passivity.
Billy isn't interested in carrying fear quietly. Charlie Heaton keeps his frustration, anger, and protectiveness much closer to the surface, creating a sharp contrast with Jack's restraint. His more volatile performance makes Billy feel ready to push back against whatever threatens the family, even when confrontation risks adding another crack to an already fragile situation.
