Logan Lerman discovers Greek mythology is much closer to home than expected when Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief arrives on Tubi October 15.
Remind MeFinding out your dad is a Greek god sounds cool until somebody accuses you of stealing Zeus' lightning bolt.
Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief arrives on Tubi October 15, sending Percy from ordinary teenager to newly discovered demigod with one extremely inconvenient quest on his hands. Suddenly, the monsters from mythology aren't confined to textbooks, Mount Olympus has family drama, and Percy's place in all of it comes with more danger than a cool ancestry reveal.
Based on the first novel in Rick Riordan's bestselling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the 2010 movie puts a modern spin on Greek mythology under director Chris Columbus, the filmmaker behind the first two Harry Potter movies. Gods and monsters haven't disappeared; they've simply adapted to a world where teenagers can stumble directly into their business.
Ancient mythology gets a modern road trip once Percy leaves the classroom behind, giving familiar gods, creatures, and legends a very different playground. Tubi's Fantasy collection has plenty more worlds to disappear into, but Percy's comes with an especially complicated family tree and a crash course he definitely didn't study for.
Camp Half-Blood opens October 15. Pack accordingly.
Percy starts the story feeling like the world was built around rules everybody understands except him, and Lerman plays that frustration with a dry, slightly bewildered teenage energy that keeps the mythology grounded. As Percy's identity begins making more sense, Lerman gradually lets confidence replace some of the confusion without making him feel like an instant hero. Being Poseidon's son may explain a few things. Knowing what to do about it is another matter.
Being Athena's daughter comes with expectations, and Daddario gives Annabeth a sharp, self-assured presence that immediately distinguishes her from the newcomer stumbling into camp. Her confidence in combat and mythology makes the character feel genuinely prepared for this world, while Daddario's competitive edge keeps Annabeth from becoming simply the person assigned to explain everything to Percy.
Percy's best friend has been keeping one fairly major secret: he's a satyr assigned to protect him. Jackson leans into Grover's nervous humor and fast-talking personality, giving the trio a burst of comic energy without losing the loyalty underneath it. Percy may be discovering how dangerous this world is; Jackson plays Grover like someone who's known all along and would still rather face it beside his friend.
“The gods lost a weapon. Guess who has to fix it.”
