S02:E08 - Defriender

Alex and Joel’s road trip to a medical conference takes a turn for the worse when they pull up to a gas station and find they’re the only ones there to look after a seriously injured couple. With Joel’s car hijacked, no hospitals or doctors nearby, and the ambulance an hour away, Alex and Joel are forced to improvise, using supplies from the gas station’s convenience store to keep the couple stable until the paramedics arrive. Ultimately, Alex decides to perform a risky live blood transfusion to save the woman’s life. Back at the hospital, a famous war photographer – and longtime friend of Charlie’s – arrives all the way from Africa with a gory and mangled leg. With Maggie’s help, Charlie works to repair his friend’s leg, even after the other doctors have deemed it unfixable. Meanwhile, Gavin and Zach role play with Shahir to try and help him improve his people skills after a patient complains about his poor bedside manner.
