S05:E02 - Midlife Crisis

A few weeks have passed since Alex (Erica Durance) turned down Charlie’s (Michael Shanks) proposal, and neither of them knows just where their relationship stands. Charlie has moved out, and Alex gets a cheery morning visit from Maggie (Julia Taylor Ross) and Shahir (Huse Madhavji), just in time to save Alex from a disastrous home haircut. Later, at the hospital, Alex and Maggie (Julia Taylor Ross) clash over whether to include Bree (Rebecca Liddiard) in their cancer study, with Alex pulling rank and going over Maggie’s head. However, Bree’s consent to the study is threatened when Alex gets in the middle of Bree and her fiancée. Meanwhile, Charlie is needed to operate on a gravely injured motorcyclist, and while talking to the biker’s spirit, Charlie helps him realize that he should try and make his father connect with him just the way he is. Maggie is pestered by Zach (Benjamin Ayres) to start dating, which Maggie realizes is a way for Zach to assuage his guilty conscience over rejecting her advances. Back at Alex’s condo in the evening Charlie drops by, and a stilted but friendly drink gives way to a heated argument, cementing Charlie and Alex’s break-up.
