Saving Hope
Season 5 Episode 7 - Gutted
Following the surgical complications with Bree (Rebecca Liddiard), Alex (Erica Durance) and Maggie (Julia Taylor Ross) find themselves in hot water from Bree’s ex-fiancée Violet (Bahia Watson). Wanting to know how and why Bree is in a coma, Violet has hired Rachel Carter (Kristin Lehman) a no-nonsense lawyer, to get to the heart of the matter, who also happens to be Charlie’s (Michael Shanks) old and new again girlfriend. During their crucible, Maggie (Julia Taylor Ross), Alex and even Charlie all find themselves in the hot seat as Rachel drives to the truth. The appearance of Spirit Bree doesn’t make things any easier. Nor does the diagnosis of Alex’s mother, Martha (Jennifer Dale), with Creutzfeld-Jakob, a degenerative and terminal disease. To make matters worse for Alex, Martha is unable, or unwilling, to accept the severity of her diagnosis. Meanwhile, Zach’s (Benjamin Ayres) emergency room has finally transitioned into an urgent care facility, with all the fancy equipment packed up and all serious trauma injuries being sent to other hospitals. When a patient accidentally crashes their car into the ambulance bay, Zach and his trauma team are ill equipped to deal with the man who’s been pinned between the car and a hard place.
