Saving Hope
Season 5 Episode 17 - First and Last
Alex (Erica Durance) and Charlie (Michael Shanks) stop in to a chapel while planning their own wedding when the bride has a major fall down the stairs. They have to put their own plans aside to save this woman’s life, and reconnect her with her soon-to-be husband who has gone AWOL from the chapel. After a successful surgery, the bride and groom are married in the hospital chapel and Alex and Charlie decide not to delay any longer and also get married then and there. When a down-on-his-luck patient comes in with liver failure due to a lifetime of hard drinking – despite being five years sober and trying to turn his life around – Zach (Benjamin Ayres) takes a special interest in the case and tries to get him a transplant, but he is ineligible due to not having a permanent address. When the system fails him, Jackson (Joseph Pierre) steps up to the plate and offers to be the liver donor, but has a bad reaction to the anesthesia and can’t go through with it. Shahir (Huse Madhavji) is struggling with whether or not he still wants to be a father, and Dana (Wendy Crewson) is struggling with the decision of whether to accept the television job or not, when they are confronted with a coma patient who wakes up with no memory of the last twenty years of his life. In the process of trying to get him to remember who he is, they remember who they are and what they want out of life.
