Having moved her family to a rambling old rental property by the ocean, Ally faces the necessity of returning to the workforce. With her husband Tim away in Singapore, Christine feels her family dissolving when Max announces his plan to move in with his biological mother, Nat. Romeo shoulders an adult responsibility when Charlotte confides a distressing secret.

Unexpected arrivals. Ally surprises Gabriel at work, convinced that the two of them can put their rocky past behind them. A visit from party heavyweight Billy offers Christine a future in politics. The past comes calling for Nat with the delivery of a mysterious bunch of flowers. Ally's attempt to host a dinner for her family is thrown by the appearance of an unwelcomed guest.

Christine kicks off her political campaign, but struggles to regain the confidence of her son Max. Romeo begins a campaign of a different kind against a student from a rival school. Nat becomes the target of a charm offensive from an old flame, while Ally finds herself caught in the crossfire of competing desires between two men.

Ally attends a series of job interviews, only to discover new boundaries within. Romeo kick starts an inter-school gang war. Gigi explores her awakening sexuality through her role in the school play. Christine gets her hands dirty with some political manoeuvring within the party. Joe pushes Ally to define their relationship, while Gabriel finds comfort from an unexpected confidante.

Nat is delighted by a call from her agent. Ally and Gabriel find their feet as a couple, but Ally discovers her happiness is built on unstable foundations. Christine flexes some political muscle in an interview with the Premier. Max becomes the prize in an emotional tug-o-war, and Romeo learns that he has made a serious error in judgement.
