Tonight Carlene and Michael help a couple in Concord, Sydney, renovate their family home for sale. These empty nesters are moving out of their Californian Bungalow that has been lovingly renovated. David and Catherine have lived here for 25 years and they’re now down sizing. There’s just one room at the back of the house that is turning buyers off, with its 1970’s look. So Michael and Carlene have a huge day of clearing out all the old 1970’s items. The old timber cabinet is also taken out and with all these things being removed its hard for owners David and Catherine to come to terms with their change. They paint all the timber window surrounds and the timber beams. Carlene decides to go for a floating timber floor. It’s a huge decision and a heart wrenching experience for the home owners and Michael and Carlene do a great job of easing David and Catherine into it. Shaynna gives us the Hollywood Regency Look on three budgets. Its based on the 1930’s, and bringing the LA film set into your living room. She’s started with a basic navy blue sofa and $1000. A big lush palm in a pot is a cheap way to introduce colour. its all about simplicity and structure, with a formal look. With $2000 Shaynna introduces more layers, mirrored coffee tables and mirror for the wall. A marble and brass coffee table is another good addition. It’s all about drama, theatre and luxury. With $3,500 in the budget, Shaynna’s chosen an animal print rug, matching floor and table lamps as well as a coffee table with fine tapered legs. Emerald green cushions with a symmetrical pattern set the luxurious look for the high end budget. At the make over in Concord the look is coming together nicely. David and Catherine have already bought their next home so they need to sell their family home. The real estate agent Roger arrives and he’s blown away by the transformation. He thinks that the house has definitely increased in value. Tim is the latest knucklehead for Scotty to visit. His attempts at paving in the backyard has been a disaster. Tim didn’t use a level and he started at either end of the entertaining area. As an accountant, he didn’t exactly get his calculations right. Scotty gives Tim a level, which Tim doesn’t even own! Scotty and his team of landscapers get in and take out the old pavers and excavate before they put a sand/cement base down to ensure a solid, level base. Once all the pavers are down, Scotty pours pave set sand and Tim sweeps it all in. The whole family is thrilled with the end result. Its auction day at Concord and David and Catherine are very nervous! The bidding kicks off at $1,250,000 and climbs slowly to $1,300,000. David and Catherine are happy with anything over $1,300,000 and are thrilled when the bidding hits this mark. The house sells for $1,410,000 and has been purchased by a young family. David and Catherine are so happy with the sale and that another young family has purchased the home. Michael and Carlene have done a great job with the house! Darren says that everyone’s got two days in a weekend and its amazing what you can do in just a day!
