Kim and Wesley are expecting their second child; it's the third for Kim who has a son from a previous relationship. Kim has decided to have her baby at home. She had to convince Wesley but he's now come around. Kim invites her mother to be present at the birth but her mom refuses. She doesn't want to see her daughter in pain, it's too difficult for her. Katie is worried, a recent ultrasound detected a slight problem with one of the baby's kidneys. Her doctor reassures her that the kidney problem isn't life threatening but schedules an induction. Lisa's contractions have started. By the time Lisa is admitted to the hospital, she's tired and gives up on a natural birth in favor of an epidural. She needs the relief. Unfortunately, the first epidural doesn't work and she has to undergo the excruciating procedure a second time. In addition, there's meconium in her discharge. The doctors are monitoring her and the baby closely and order a c-section after the baby's heart rate dips and Lisa's cervix swells. Baby Jonas is born weighing 10lbs 8 oz! The doctors discover that Lisa's uterus has ruptured and her bladder is torn _ life threatening conditions without immediate medical attention. Lisa is happy to be in the hospital. Had she been at home, things could have gone very badly.
