Season 1
S01:E01 - Pilot
After sustaining a minor heart attack, lingerie salesman David Hart reevaluates his entire way of life, deciding that he's dissatisfied with the present predicament. In order to reinvigorate his family's lives with spontaneity and excitement, Dave purchases The Flying Tumbleweed Ranch in Sholo, Nevada on a whim. When they arrive in town to scope out their new digs, however, the Harts find the Tumbleweed to be quite a bit more... weathered than its brochure had led them to anticipate. Unfortunately for Dave's wallet, the facilitator of the transaction for the property promptly passed after selling it to the family, so the Harts are forced to make the best out of the Wild West!
S01:E02 - The Right Stuff
After anxiously awaiting the arrival of their stuff from Chicago, the day has come and the Hart children can finally breathe again. There's only one little roadblock: the moving truck that's shown up is inexplicably empty. Meanwhile, Dave hires a new ranch hand, a former rodeo clown, to help break in the wild Mustangs on the Tumbleweed. When the clown ends up working his magic on Alison and the kids, instead, Dave must hatch a plan that'll take care of the ranch hand without having to buck him himself.
S01:E03 - Guess Who's Coming to Chow?
When a headstrong prairie dog named Ralph wreaks havoc upon the Tumbleweed, Dave sees red. Dave sends Jake to pick up Alison's mother, Nina, from the train station in a horse carriage after Ralph chews through the 'soft parts' of the Hart's car. Totally unimpressed with life on the ranch, Nina sends Alison into a frenzy trying to accommodate her. Initially appalled by Jake, Nina's wooed on the dance floor. After discovering that Ralph has become Duke's best friend, Dave scrambles for a way to soften the blow.
S01:E04 - Dead Man's Leap
R.O. tries to go golfing in Death Valley during a thunderstorm and is promptly struck by lightning, inadvertently unlocking a supernatural link to the deceased. Eager to make new friends, Zane goes behind his dad's back and sneaks out of the house with the town's resident bad boys, forcing L'Amour to clumsily cover for him. When R.O. unmistakably channels Dave's late father to hash it out with Dave, Dave realizes that he should probably tinker with his own parenting. Zane instantly regrets his decision after he's dared to clear a colossal gap at Dead Man's Leap.
S01:E05 - Goodnight, Irene
When Garral's favorite cow, Irene, turns up murdered, what follows is Sholo Police Department's most pressing whodunnit in history. Sheriff R.O. dives rump first into his investigation, questioning Sholo's townspeople and piecing together the puzzle that's painted by the muddled testimonies he receives. Feeling unfulfilled and out of place in Sholo, Alison takes a job as a substitute teacher at Duke's school, getting to the bottom of why Duke's grades have been slipping. Meanwhile, Zane and L'Amour hatch a plan that they hope will reap whopping profits.
S01:E06 - Cowboyz in the Hood
Two words: equestrian therapy. Missing some of city life's amenities, Dave receives a package filled with some of Chicago's finest Chinese cuisine, but a lamentable development spoils the special delivery. In order to gain good favor with his parole people, Marcus has volunteered to mentor Evan Wilson, a boombox wielding troubled teenager, as part of his own community service, hoping that the horses will help turn Evan's life around. After an unfortunate first encounter, Dave agrees to allow Evan to work on the Tumbleweed to instill a sense of discipline and develop a solid work ethic... to surprising effect. Meanwhile, Zane accompanies Cassie to a roundup.
S01:E07 - Auggie's End
As Auggie's 60th birthday approaches, he holds a massive blowout sale at the general store. When Dave questions just how Auggie can afford to sell everything so cheaply, Auggie lets Dave know that his last day's on Thursday. After Auggie reveals that this retirement comes with eternal rest, Dave's surprise turns to shock. In order to feel closest to his wife throughout his final days, Auggie holds a celebration on the Hart's property, where she's buried. Duke trades baseball tryouts and his glove for sheep shears.
S01:E08 - Jake's Brother
When Jake's brother, Ezekiel, returns to Sholo after a long stint in the city, the two brothers promptly schedule a shootout to settle their differences. Dave's rightfully concerned for his friend and foreman's life, but he's met with apprehension from Sheriff R.O., who refuses to intervene. Instead, R.O. liberally doles out a badge and patrol car to Dave, allowing him to take matters into his own hands. After locking both brothers in a cell does little to alleviate the tension between the two, Dave gathers the townspeople to brainstorm methods in order to save one of Sholo's own. One thing Dave shouldn't underestimate, however, is the tenacity of the Tyrells.
S01:E09 - Ghost Run
Dave enters Sholo's Frontier Day traditional buckboard race in order to cement his standing in history as an authentic Westerner. When he apparently lands a previously consecutive winner as a racing partner, Dave and the betting men are ecstatic, but when the true racer is that champion's elderly wife, Thelma, Dave can't help but feel disadvantaged. Baffled by Dave's hypercriticism, and determined to set an admirable example for L'Amour, Alison enters the race with Thelma as her own partner, bent on deflating Dave and dismantling his sexist sentiment.
S01:E10 - You've Got to Have Hart
Jake's too old to enter the annual bull riding competition, but don't let Jake know. Dave makes the mistake of expressing worry about Jake's poor back, entangling him in a guilt trip that leads to him entering the competition himself, in Jake's stead. Hoping to reclaim some long-lost acclaim for Sholo, Dave see-saws and mounts barrels in preparation for his bull riding debut. As Dave is strewn while training for a boon, L'Amour swoons, falling for a stoic and striking rodeo Romeo.
S01:E11 - Home Alone... With Friends
They had something better than a marriage: an uncontested divorce! Rose and R.O.'s honeymoon-divorce period has finally ended, and, ironically, R.O.'s been kicked out of the house. Unable to secure suitable accommodations on account of his ruinous reputation as an overnight guest, R.O. finagles his way into the Hart's bunkhouse. When an explosive development renders the bunkhouse... uninhabitable, R.O. receives a complimentary upgrade to the family home, immediately taking liberties with the rules that Dave has set forth. What's happened to Dave's Western hospitality?
S01:E12 - Hart's Vacation
The Harts embark on an epically exotic adventure that has them braving... their very own backyard for a camping trip. Jumping head-first into their luxury two-night, three-day stay in Sholo, Nevada, the Harts are entirely unprepared for the onslaught of deluge that awaits them in the American West. When they visit the historic Sholo silver mine, Dave is floored by a startling turn of events and must be administered an all-natural remedy. A marauding bear takes a liking to the Harts' sense of fashion. Even the Windy City natives are ill-equipped for a wild tornado that corkscrews with their plans for a peaceful weekend.
S01:E13 - Back in the Panties Again
Now there's something you can do for me, buddy! Dave's pushy former boss, Fred, visits the Tumbleweed in order to incentivize Dave into giving lingerie another go, basking in Sholo's amenities along the way. Zane rescues an ensnared donkey with an impressively cultured lingerie model. Just when he thinks he's done a deed that'll win him points with the lovely lady, the only infatuation he garners is the donkey's. When the Harts' well runs dry, Dave excites the family about the possibility of moving back to Chicago.
S01:E14 - Drive, He Said
Today's Dave's birthday, and it all kicks off with a stampede of cows to outrun! An impactful blow to a singularly sensitive area leaves Dave reeling over the presence of a cattle driver who hopes to drive his prices up exorbitantly. Once he's had time to regather himself, Dave workshops an idea to run a cattle drive himself, forgoing any need for a third-party driver at all. In order to uphold the Sholo way, the Harts must deliver a herd to Carson City.
S01:E15 - Jake and Duke's Excellent Adventure
On Duke's tenth birthday, he hits the trail with Jake on a rite of passage through the Sholo wilderness that'll instruct him in the ways of manhood: to hunt, to fish... and to use a remote. When Alison's stomach is stirred by Duke's departure, she thinks she may be pregnant, so she heads to Auggie's to procure a special plain brown bag and test her theory. Auggie's tendency to talk breaches Alison's request for confidentiality, and the townspeople offer their felicitations at once. Zane misreads Cassie's impulse to ask him to book a room reservation for her.
